Position Summary The Business Development team supports the firm across a broad spectrum of new business and client relationship‑building activities, including the creation of new business proposals and firm marketing materials, upkeep of the databases that track firm experience and client information, competitive and market intelligence, and coordination of client events.
The Business Development Specialist will work closely with Business Development Managers, partners and other lawyers to develop and implement business and client development initiatives for the firm’s Finance practice. The Specialist will assist with and manage client pitches, RFPs, client presentations, events, sponsorships, legal rankings, league table submissions and other profile‑raising activities.
The ideal candidate will combine strong analytical and organizational skills with the ability to think critically about the broader goals of the Finance practice, work independently with minimal to moderate oversight, take initiative in moving multiple workstreams forward, and contribute to both execution and strategy.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Strategic preparation and management of targeted presentations, pitch requests and RFP responses
Manage the drafting and submission of numerous legal directories, awards and related industry guides (e.g., Chambers, Legal 500, IFLR)
Manage league table process/relationships to ensure effective and timely submission
Manage print and digital marketing materials to ensure content reflects substantive strengths, accomplishments and current activities
Maintain matter databases for precedent, marketing and business development purposes
Monitor and evaluate BD efforts and initiatives within the finance space
Prepare and maintain competitive analysis, including analyzing client and competitor market trends, leveraging relevant industry research and news databases and resources (e.g., S&P Capital IQ, LSEG, Bloomberg, KBRA DLD, and PitchBook) to monitor, research and report on market trends and insights, competitor activity, existing and prospective client developments
Identify, plan and manage sponsorship of and participation in select conferences, events and client galas as needed
Collaborate with the PR and Marketing teams to promote the practice internally and externally
Qualifications/Position Requirements
Demonstrate a high level of initiative and communicate in a clear and concise manner
High sense of accountability and ownership of assigned workstreams
Strong project management, organization, and attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple projects and deal with competing priorities
Experience working collaboratively on a team and across departments
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including PowerPoint and Excel
Preference for experience with CRM and/or Experience Management software, such as InterAction and ContentPilot, and external research platforms (Bloomberg, PitchBook, Capital IQ, LSEG, KBRA DLD, etc.)
Education and/or Experience
Bachelor’s Degree required, Finance, Business, Economics, or Marketing preferred
3‑6 years of business development or marketing experience in a professional services, consulting, or advisory environment, (such as legal, accounting, consulting) or investment relations experience
Compensation The expected base salary for this position ranges from $100,000‑$125,000. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and, where applicable, licensure or certifications obtained. Market and organizational factors are also considered. Davis Polk offers a competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package.
