Description Of Work The Application Systems Specialist II serves as the Epic Certified Beaker Analyst responsible for the implementation, support, and optimization of the Epic Beaker Laboratory Information System (LIS) across thirteen state‑operated healthcare facilities. This position ensures the seamless integration and performance of laboratory workflows, middleware systems, and instrument interfaces in alignment with clinical and regulatory standards. Acting as the primary liaison between laboratory operations, IT, and Epic application teams, the role supports high‑quality patient diagnostics and clinical decision‑making. The Analyst applies advanced technical expertise to maintain system integrity, troubleshoot complex issues, and enhance application functionality. This position requires independent judgment, collaboration across disciplines, and adherence to compliance requirements.

Key Duties Include

Implement and configure Epic Beaker LIS modules to support laboratory operations across multiple healthcare facilities.

Maintain and optimize middleware systems and instrument interfaces to ensure accurate and efficient data exchange.

Collaborate with laboratory staff, vendors, and IT teams to support system integration and workflow alignment.

Troubleshoot and resolve complex application and interface issues impacting laboratory performance.

Ensure compliance with CLIA, CAP, HIPAA, and North Carolina state laboratory regulations.

Develop and execute validation protocols for new instruments, middleware, and system upgrades.

Provide technical support and training to end users on Epic Beaker functionality and related systems.

Participate in a rotating after‑hours on‑call schedule to support critical system operations.

Conduct site visits for testing, training, and go‑live support as needed.

Document system configurations, workflows, and issue resolutions to maintain operational transparency and continuity.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities / Management Preferences Salary Grade Range: $88,187.00‑$154,327.00

Applicants who possess the following skills are preferred:

Demonstrated expert‑level proficiency in configuring and supporting Epic Beaker Clinical Pathology modules across multi‑site healthcare environments.

Documented experience integrating laboratory instruments using middleware platforms such as Mirth Connect and Data Innovations, with consistent success in maintaining data accuracy and system uptime.

Advanced experience in interpreting and applying HL7 and ASTM standards to ensure seamless communication between laboratory systems and external applications.

Track record of conducting validation and optimization of laboratory workflows to meet CLIA, CAP, HIPAA, and state‑specific compliance requirements.

Demonstrated strong analytical background in diagnosing and resolving complex LIS performance issues, with documented improvements in system reliability and user satisfaction.

Bachelor’s degree in computer science or an IT related field or related technical degree from an appropriately accredited institution and six years of progressive experience in business application, business intelligence, or enterprise application consulting or development; or Associate degree in computer science or an IT related field or related technical degree from an appropriately accredited institution and seven years of progressive experience in business application consulting or development; or High School or General Education Development (GED) diploma and ten years of experience in business application, business intelligence, or enterprise application consulting or development; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
