Title: Fleet Diesel Mechanic
Location: Poughkeepsie, NY
Department: Fleet
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Reports To: Fleet Supervisor
Pay Grade: Hourly Wage $30–37 per hour
Responsibilities
Inspect ambulances and other vehicles for fluid levels, service hours, mileage, proper operation and damage.
Remove units from service for preventative maintenance or repairs.
Perform preventive maintenance and repairs to ensure safe and reliable operations.
Inspect, maintain, and repair equipment to maintain safety.
Safeguard tools, equipment, parts, and supplies.
Maintain a clean and safe work area.
Prepare work orders, failure reports, logbooks, and other records.
Qualifications & Education
High School diploma or GED.
Valid Driver’s License.
Diesel Mechanic Certification.
Completion of apprenticeship in automotive or truck repair.
Experience
Three to five years of experience in maintenance and repair of diesel engines on vehicles.
Experience with mechanical, hydraulic, and electric systems used in a fleet of vehicles.
Experience working with diesel and gasoline-powered engines preferred.
Technical Skills
Operate, service, and repair appropriate vehicles and related equipment.
Use diagnostic equipment effectively to test, analyze, and determine specific problems.
Follow specific service or repair procedures from manuals.
Behavioral and Physical Skills
Diagnose and troubleshoot service problems.
Work independently with little supervision.
Work during odd hours and for extended periods.
Stand, bend, kneel, and crawl regularly to use hands and tools; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear.
Lift parts, tools, and equipment up to 75 pounds.
Maintain physical condition to perform assigned job functions.
Work Environment
High‑stress environment with exposure to wet, humid, extreme cold, and extreme heat outdoors.
Occasional proximity to moving mechanical parts.
Noise level usually moderate.
Comments

Must communicate effectively in writing, verbally, and via radio/telephone.
