Individual Income Tax Auditor 3
Job Location: 1600 W. Monroe st Phoenix, AZ 85007
Salary: $50,000 per year ($24.038 per/hr)
Grade: 21

Job Summary Conducts highly-complex audits that are medium to large in scale of individual and federal corporate income tax, withholding tax, and emerging tax audits. Responsibilities include collecting and analyzing data, planning and organizing audit procedures, and examining and reviewing financial records to prepare detailed reports of audit findings.
Supervision: This position does not have direct reports.
Job Duties Tax Refund and Audit Reviews
Conducts complex audits involving accurate calculation and application of tax laws, rules, and regulations.
Examines audits and determines and recomputes tax liabilities, and detailed review of penalty abatement requests.
Prepares case files and documents audits to support the department's position.
Performs and supports other audit functions, including research and examination, ticket/email resolution and tax system maintenance for accounts flagged for potential fraud.
Makes adjustments to taxpayer accounts in the tax system and cleans up data for flagged accounts.
Research & Analysis
Researches highly-complex issues and resolves taxpayer appeals in a timely, fair, accurate and consistent manner.
Explains audit adjustments and conclusions to taxpayers and their representatives.
Reviews work of other auditors and educates taxpayers in tax law, rules and regulations to ensure compliance through the audit process.
Agency/Department Compliance & Continuous Improvement
Stays current on all laws, regulations, policies, and best practices related to taxation through ongoing research and professional development.
Contributes to team and personal effectiveness by attending meetings, completing required training, and participating in assigned work teams.
Tracks and reports metrics, projects, and huddle boards as requested.
Collaborates with supervisor for coaching and performance improvement.
Provides recommendations for process improvement within the Arizona Management System (AMS).
May attend and represent the department at informal and formal hearings and conduct audit work in the field, in- or out-of-state. Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Education & Experience Any combination that meets the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Minimum two (2) years related experience as an auditor or equivalent experience.
Licenses & Certifications Valid Arizona Driver’s License.
Knowledge/Understanding
Knowledge of individual income, corporate income, fiduciary, and withholding tax policy and procedures.
Knowledge of applicable federal and state tax laws, statutes, and codes.
Knowledge of GAAP and GAAS.
Skills
Strong verbal and written communication and active listening.
Strong mathematical computation skills.
Excellent organizational and time management skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Google Suite, and tax reporting/accounting systems.
Abilities
Clear background and clearance including FBI fingerprint clearance.
Work in a confidential manner and interpret state tax laws.
Apply intermediate analytical skills to solve problems and provide solutions.
Travel up to 10% to conduct field audit work.
Additonal Job Demands
Exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and up to 10 pounds frequently to move objects.
Operate a state-owned or personal vehicle.
Selective Preference(s)
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or closely related field.
Experience with Continuous Improvement/LEAN.
