Position Summary Provide social work services to all patient populations across the hospital. Deliver direct interventions in mental health, crisis, advocacy, and discharge planning. Partner with multidisciplinary teams, coordinate care, and facilitate transitions to psychiatric facilities, substance‑abuse treatment, outpatient services, and community resources.
Education and Experience Master’s Degree in Social Work .
Preferred: 1–2 years of professional experience in healthcare or mental‑health settings.
Licenses, Registrations, Certifications Master’s Degree in Social Work and Licensed Master’s Social Work (LMSW) or Limited License Master’s Social Work (LLMSW) in good standing with the State of Michigan (LMSW preferred). For hires prior to 7/16/2024, Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) certification is accepted.
Work Environment Clean, well‑lit, temperature‑controlled setting; possible exposure to infectious disease, moderate noise, and threatening behavior in an acute‑care environment.
Physical Demands Stand, walk, talk, use hands; occasional lifting of up to 10 lb. Vision: close and distance vision required.
Interpersonal Requirements Excellent communication, problem‑solving, advocacy, crisis intervention, assertiveness, empathy, customer service orientation, negotiation, and conflict‑resolution skills.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Work variable shifts (including holidays and weekends).
Respond to call downs and codes (e.g., trauma, stroke, code blue).
Cover multiple units based on acuity.
Coordinate care and facilitate smooth transfers within and beyond the hospital.
Collaborate with security and risk to reduce workplace violence.
Conduct crisis assessment and mental‑health interventions; facilitate psychiatric transfers.
Develop discharge plans to community resources and psychiatric facilities.
Document all interventions in the electronic medical record in a timely and accurate manner.
Participate in multidisciplinary rounds and advance patient care.
Lead policy development, staff meetings, and professional development activities.
Orient new MSW hires when assigned.
Provide high‑quality customer service to patients, families, and the interdisciplinary team.
Maintain professional growth through in‑services and continuous education.
Apply advanced knowledge of DSM‑V diagnostic criteria in assessments.
Assist with legal paperwork for involuntary psychiatric hospitalizations and court hearings.
Support safe discharge and appropriate follow‑up treatment.
Ensure compliance with all regulatory and institutional policies.
Contribute to quality improvement initiatives.
Maintain confidentiality and ethical standards.
Respond to community resource inquiries and referrals.
Delegate tasks and supervise staff as appropriate.
Ensure accurate and timely clinical documentation.
Participate in training and orientation of new staff.
Maintain a positive work climate.
Adhere to patient‑care protocols and institutional standards.
