Position Overview The Division of Pulmonary Sciences and Critical Care Medicine at the University of Colorado Denver, Anschutz Medical Campus, is seeking applications for energetic, collegial individuals for full‑time Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner OR Physician’s Assistant) positions to provide daytime and nighttime coverage within the Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) of the University of Colorado Hospital.

The division oversees a regionally and internationally recognized referral center for the care of patients with all forms of pulmonary disease and critical illness. Responsibilities include the assessment and ongoing management of patients with underlying pulmonary disease and critical illness, working closely with physicians (including residents, fellows, and other trainees) within the MICU.

Key Responsibilities

Inpatient evaluation and management of acute and critically ill patients with complex medical and pulmonary diseases.

Staff the Medical Intensive Care Unit and/or Medical Surgical Progressive Care Unit.

Ordering and interpreting tests and evaluations for patient management.

Collaborating with consulting services on patient management.

Perform invasive procedures with appropriate credentials.

Provide cross‑coverage for other service lines within the Division as needed (e.g., Pulmonary Hypertension, Pulmonary Embolism Response Team).

Staff other service lines within the Division as needed (e.g., pulmonary consults, critical care consults, Rapid Response Team).

Support the educational mission of the division.

Other duties assigned by the Lead Advanced Practice Provider and/or the Associate Chair for Clinical Affairs.

Work Location Onsite – this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, CO.

Master’s Degree

Nurse Practitioners should be board certified or board eligible for certification in acute care

Physician’s Assistants should have acute and/or critical care experience

Eligible or licensed in Colorado (would need to obtain CO license before working)

Certified to see adolescents and adults

Sr. Instructor

Master’s Degree

Current or past faculty appointment as a Senior Instructor in an academic medical institution

Nurse Practitioners should be board certified or board eligible for certification in acute care

Physician’s Assistants should have acute and/or critical care experience

Eligible or licensed in Colorado (would need to obtain CO license before working)

Certified to see adolescents and adults

Doctor of Nursing or Doctor of Medical Science (DMSc) degree or equivalent experience

Current or past faculty appointment as an Assistant Professor in an academic medical institution

Nurse Practitioners should be board certified or board eligible for certification in acute care

Physician’s Assistants should have acute and/or critical care experience

Eligible or licensed in Colorado (would need to obtain CO license before working)

Certified to see adolescents and adults

Associate Professor

Doctor of Nursing or Doctor of Medical Science (DMSc) degree or equivalent experience

Current or past faculty appointment as an Associate Professor in an academic medical institution

Nurse Practitioners should be board certified or board eligible for certification in acute care

Physician’s Assistants should have acute and/or critical care experience

Eligible or licensed in Colorado (would need to obtain CO license before working)

Certified to see adolescents and adults

Preferred Qualifications

General Internal Medicine knowledge base (advanced lung disease and critical illness‑related specialized knowledge and skills are desirable but not required as they will be obtained as on‑the‑job training).

Pulmonary Medicine, Intensive Care, or Subspecialty background preferred, but not required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Excellent communication skills to interact with multiple medical providers and disciplines.

Excellent bedside manner and physical exam skills.

Anticipated Pay Range HIRING RANGE:

Instructor:

$112,000 – 150,000; additional shift differential for nights, weekends, and holiday shifts.

Senior Instructor:

$112,000 – 150,000; additional shift differential for nights, weekends, and holiday shifts.

Assistant Professor:

$112,000 – 150,000; additional shift differential for nights, weekends, and holiday shifts.

Associate Professor:

$112,000 – 150,000; additional shift differential for nights, weekends, and holiday shifts.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non‑exempt.
