Working Title: Child Development Center Assistant Teacher – Virginia Beach (5 Positions). Role Title: Education Support Assistant. Position Number: 295W5523. Agency: Tidewater Community College, Division Tidewater Community College (Div). Work Location: Virginia Beach – 810. Pay Band: 01; Pay: $14.31 per hour, part time. Work Schedule: Varies, center hours 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM, up to 29 hrs per week. Job Code: 29141-SW. FLSA: Nonexempt.

Responsibilities

Assist the Lead Teacher in implementing planned lessons to support learning and child development.

Support program health and safety measures in the classroom.

Serve and supervise mealtimes that reflect family style dining.

Maintain appropriate child-to-teacher ratios and supervise all children in care.

Assist with snack/meal preparation and maintain indoor/outdoor activity areas.

Use approved child guidance and youth development techniques during interactions with children.

Observe children for signs of illness, abuse, or neglect and report as directed; mandatory reporter to Child Protective Services.

Interact professionally with employees, parents, and community members; provide daily verbal or written feedback to parents.

May perform other duties as assigned, including assistance in emergencies.

Qualifications

Minimum age 18 years and high school completion or equivalent.

Child development credential from an organization listed under 22.1-289.048 of the Code of Virginia.

Ability to supervise or manage children aged 6 weeks to 12 years.

Knowledge of activity planning and special events for child development centers.

Demonstrated communication with children using approved development techniques.

Oral and written communication skills with parents, faculty, and staff.

Knowledge of cleaning and sanitizing children’s materials and play areas.

Ability to lift and maintain up to 40 pounds.

State vehicle operation not required.
