Pinto Valley is an open-pit copper mine located at the west end of the historic Globe-Miami mining district of central Arizona, approximately 80 miles east of Phoenix. Pinto Valley has been in operation since 1972 and has produced more than four billion pounds of copper. Acquired by Capstone from BHP in 2013, the mine is fully permitted through 2039 and a study is underway to potentially extend the mine life through 2050.

Position Overview The Mine Dispatch Specialist plays a critical role in supporting safe, efficient, and disciplined haulage operations by managing dispatch systems, fleet assignments, and production data. This role partners closely with Operations, Maintenance, and Technical Services to ensure haul truck utilization aligns with weekly plans, data integrity standards, and continuous improvement objectives.
Position Responsibilities Safety, Compliance & Coverage:
Support safe mining operations by ensuring dispatch activities align with site safety standards and operational procedures. Provide night‑shift coverage as required for vacations and time off and remain available for on‑call support during assigned rotations.
Dispatch & Haulage Optimization:
Manage haul truck assignments to achieve weekly movement targets by source and destination. Configure tie‑downs and dispatch logic to reduce queue time, minimize hang delays, and improve overall haulage efficiency.
Fleet Management System Oversight:
Maintain, audit, and optimize the MineStar fleet management system on a daily basis. Ensure accurate configuration, activity coding, and system utilization to support production and performance tracking.
Data Integrity & Reporting:
Audit, validate, and correct 24‑hour dispatch data. Organize, verify, and sign off on daily production data to ensure accuracy and completeness. Perform monthly reconciliations of actual performance against budget and plan.
Performance Monitoring & KPIs:
Track, analyze, and report key performance indicators related to haulage efficiency, equipment utilization, and dispatch performance. Ensure consistent delay and activity coding to support meaningful analysis.
Analysis & Continuous Improvement:
Develop trend charts, dashboards, and analytical tools to identify performance gaps and improvement opportunities. Use data‑driven insights to support operational decision‑making and productivity improvements.
Operator Performance & Feedback:
Develop and maintain operator scorecards and dashboards to provide clear, timely feedback to crews and support performance improvement initiatives.
Maintenance Coordination:
Collaborate with Maintenance teams to ensure Truck Utilization Management (TUM) processes are followed and equipment availability and status are accurately reflected in dispatch systems.
Position Requirements Required
5 to 10 years of mining experience, preferably in open‑pit operations.
Strong understanding of drill–blast–load–haul mining processes.
Experience with MineStar or a similar fleet management system.
Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
High attention to detail with the ability to audit and validate operational data.
Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and troubleshooting skills.
Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
Ability to speak, read, write, and comprehend English fluently.
Preferred
Experience in a copper mining operation.
Experience using SAP or similar enterprise systems.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Primarily office‑based role (approximately 90%) with limited field exposure (approximately 10%).
Ability to walk short distances, navigate stairs, and work on uneven surfaces.
Ability to kneel, stoop, squat, and occasionally work in confined spaces.
All candidates will be required to complete a pre‑employment medical exam, drug and alcohol test, and background check. All positions require a pre‑placement physical examination to ensure candidates are ‘fit for duty’. Additional training and/or testing may be required. Capstone maintains a drug and alcohol‑free workplace.
