Temporary Summer Camp Staff - Columbia, NC Are you ready for a summer of amazing experiences and memories that will last a lifetime? We are looking for responsible, enthusiastic individuals to serve as positive role models and mentors for youth, ages 5–17 at our American Camp Association accredited summer camp.

Qualified candidates will possess patience, fairness, compassion, resilience, great listening skills, and have a passion for the outdoors, fun and developing young people. You will help provide a fun, caring, safe environment in which young people will learn to appreciate nature, enjoy the challenges of adventure activities while creating lasting friendships and memories.

You will deliver age appropriate, predetermined curriculum in a variety of camp activities including, but not limited to: target sports, ecology, crafts, swimming, boating, hiking, team challenges, high ropes, photography, sports and games and/or rock climbing. Applicants are required to reside on site and in cabins with children.

Positions Available Summer Program Activity Instructors Camp Counselors Lifeguards

Summer Program Activity Instructor Responsibilities Deliver age appropriate, predetermined curriculum in a variety of camp activities including, but not limited to, target sports, ecology, crafts, rock climbing, physical fitness, health, and aquatic activities. Types of Summer Program Instructors include Arts‑N‑Crafts Instructor, Ecology Instructor, Shooting Sports Instructor, Climbing Wall/High Ropes Instructor, Logistics Coordinator, and Photographer/Social Media. Assist in cabin supervision of children.

Camp Counselor Responsibilities Responsible for the daily care and supervision of up to 10 children, ranging from ages 5 to 17. Be a mentor and positive role model to your campers. Foster and maintain positive, developmentally sound relationships among and with campers. Assist in personal care as needed for your campers – ensuring they are showering, changing, eating and drinking properly, etc. Always be attentive. Assist and/or lead a variety of camp activities, including, but are not limited to: target sports, ecology, team building, sports and games, rock climbing, crafts, and aquatic activities.

Lifeguard Responsibilities Must currently be certified as a lifeguard by a nationally recognized organization or be willing to become certified during summer camp staff training. Ensure the safety of all campers and staff present by enforcing waterfront and pool area rules and regulations, monitoring activity in and around the swim area. Give instructions on proper boating procedures and assist in the implementation of the Aquatics Emergency Action Plan, if needed. Responsible for the supplies and cleanliness of the boat house and pool area. Will be responsible for the general healthcare of our campers during the summer. Will be responsible for the organization of medical forms, dispensing medications, providing minor first aid and responding to emergency situations by calling in proper medical technicians if needed. The Logistics Coordinator is a lead staff member, and must be onsite earlier than all other staff members in order to participate in additional training and assist with the setup of camp. Responsible for making sure that cold water is available at all outdoor program areas in a timely manner. Assist with running the High Ropes course, Rock Wall, and Giant Swing (training is provided). Communicate effectively with all staff. Assist with setup and clean up of various camp activities. Other duties as assigned.

Work Schedule Workdays will begin around noon on Sunday of each week and end around noon on Friday. Workdays are subject to fluctuations from time to time. These positions demand a high level of responsibility and attention to detail. You will be with the campers 24/7 for meal times and activities to ensure order, timeliness, and cleanliness throughout the camp week.

Pay and Benefits Anticipated Hiring Range $300 – $450 per week flat, dependent upon position.

Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent. Must enjoy working with children and working outdoors. Must be able to work in varying weather conditions (heat, rain, pollen, etc.). Must live on-site and share cabins with children, arranged by gender. American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED certified. Prior experience in camp or informal education setting. Prior experience working with children.
