Agency Overview Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) is led by Secretary Janet Stanek and comprises three divisions: Public Health, Environment, and Health Care Finance (including the State’s Medicaid program, KanCare). KDHE uniquely integrates these entities to holistically protect Kansans’ health and well-being.

Position Summary & Responsibilities Analyze applicant data to determine eligibility for federal and state medical assistance through Medicaid programs. Investigate applications using available computer systems, databases, and registries; apply policies and operational processes to evaluate information and make eligibility determinations. Provide excellent customer service, document decisions in the electronic case journal, and send appropriate correspondence regarding outcomes and appeal rights.

Utilize the agency’s workload management tool (CURRENT) to claim and place outcomes on case tasks, enter household information, and authorize eligibility within the Kansas Economic and Enforcement System (KEES).

Make determinations by interpreting State and Federal regulations and financial/non‑financial criteria.

Document eligibility decisions and communicate results to customers and representatives.

Qualifications

Education:

High School, GED

Licensing & Certification:

Valid driver’s license required for operating a state vehicle, private vehicle, or rental vehicle on behalf of the State.

Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent.

At least six months of experience determining Long‑Term Care, Elderly and Disabled, or Family Medical eligibility (education may substitute experience if deemed relevant).

Preferred Qualifications:

Post‑high school education.

Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access.

Proofreading, editing, and attention to detail.

Demonstrated analytical skills and knowledge of Medicaid Programs.

Ability to manage competing priorities, large workloads, and interview, investigate, compile information, and document decisions.

Post‑Offer, Pre‑Employment Requirements:

Obtain a valid Kansas Tax Clearance Certificate within ten (10) days of a job offer.
