Job Overview The Specialized Transport Driver will safely operate a commercial industrial carrier or tractor trailer combination with a GVWR rating in excess of 33,000 lbs.
Responsibilities And Duties
Report each scheduled day, on‑time, ready and able to work; well‑groomed and in uniform
Identify to the appropriate Dispatcher that you are available to work
Perform vehicle inspection sheet daily, identifying any mechanical issues, unreported damage or any limitations as to the vehicle’s safe operation
Wear all required safety equipment during work hours
Report all mechanical issues with regard to truck and trailers at the time of discovery to Terminal
Responsible to follow all Company and DOT rules and regulations regarding the safe operation of the truck
Check fuel level at the end and in the beginning of each shift
Check fluid levels at the end and beginning of each shift
Inspect all supplied tools such as chains, straps and cables to ensure equipment is in good and safe condition prior to the departure from the yard each day
Maintain clean truck inside and out, removing all trash/debris daily
Wash exterior and interior of truck three (3) times per week
Communicate with dispatch center (when safe to do so), meeting all company and DOT regulations via company 2‑way radio or company provided mobile device of all vehicle information, location and progression of dispatch
Immediately report any issue that restricts the ability to complete the dispatch in a timely manner
Follow all company policies and DOT regulations with regards to the safe loading, securement and transportation of all vehicles, equipment and cargo from the point of pick to the point of completion
Follow all Company procedures with regard to towing, recovery and road service, including the removal of drive shafts and axles
Respectful communication with all dispatchers, co‑workers and customers is paramount to the ongoing success of our company. In the event of any disagreement or situation, it is company policy that you avoid all confrontations and report it to the Terminal Manager immediately
Complete manifests and tow slips as required by the company, local and state agencies as to vehicle, equipment or cargo, by identification or manifest number and point of loading and completion of the towing/ transportation event
Perform any other duties as assigned
Qualifications / Requirements
Commercial Class A driver’s license – CDL for Heavy Transport Positions
22 Years of Age
High school diploma or GED (preferred)
At least five (5) years of heavy hauling / commercial driving experience
Strong customer service skills, professional demeanor
Must be able to speak, write and communicate in English
Ability to communicate calmly and effectively
Basic technology skills. Ability to use GPS, company‑issued software, mobile device
Time management skills
Basic mechanical skills and ability to use tools
Attention to detail and accuracy when documenting work, hours, and information
Physical Requirements The job requires lifting, crawling, pulling, constant use of hands, significant bending and reaching, climbing. Significant physical strength and stamina. Ability to lift and pull at least 50 lbs. Good hearing and vision are required.
