Job Description and Duties

Under the direction of the Community Resource Manager (CRM) of the Department of Corrections (D.O.C.), provide religious services to inmates.

Interview and counsel incarcerated people on ethical, moral, and spiritual matters.

Prepare and conduct religious services and administer religious rites.

Organize and instruct classes in religious ethics and sacred music.

Supervise the arrangement of programs conducted in the institution by visiting religious and allied groups.

Counsel regarding family problems and serve as a consultant to classification committees.

Work with inmate groups and activities and provide supervision of assigned workers.

Minimum Requirements

Jewish faith and active membership in a recognized Jewish community.

Valid rabbinic or cantorial ordination.

Experience providing spiritual care in a correctional setting or similar environment (preferred).

Excellent interpersonal and counseling skills.

Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism in a diverse environment.

Maximum Tenure:

May 2025 (subject to extension up to 24 months or conversion to permanent)

Special Requirements Applicants will undergo a comprehensive background investigation, Live Scan Fingerprinting, and a Tuberculosis test/evaluation prior to appointment, with annual follow‑up thereafter. Candidates new to CDCR/CCHCS must submit verification of U.S. course/degree equivalency for foreign education. All documentation should be submitted in PDF format whenever possible.

Desirable Qualifications

Willingness to create and promote an equitable and inclusive workplace where diversity is celebrated and valued.

Experience in cross‑cultural counseling and communication.
