Correctional Supervising Cook
The California Department of Corrections & Rehabilitation (CDCR) is hiring a Correctional Supervising Cook, CF, to work at Sierra Conservation Center (SCC) in Jamestown, Tuolumne County. Job Overview Under the direction of the Supervising Correctional Cook, DOC, the Correctional Supervising Cook is responsible for receiving, preparing, and distributing food to the satellite kitchens; supervising and training incarcerated‐worker cooks; maintaining kitchen equipment; ordering supplies; and performing other duties as required. Records and reports must be kept, and assistance in the ordering of food items and produce is expected.
Location & Working Conditions SCC is located in the foothills near Jamestown, California, adjacent to the Stanislaus National Forest. The facility provides housing, programs, and services for minimum and medium custody inmates and is involved in the Conservation Camp Program. The primary mission is inmate rehabilitation and community reintegration.
Salary & Benefits Classified under CORRECTIONAL SUPERVISING COOK (CORRECTIONAL FACILITY). Salary range: $4,586.00–$5,639.00 per month (A). Three positions are available. New to State candidates will be hired at the classification’s minimum or alternate minimum salary range. The position is permanent, full‑time, and requires in‑office work.
Responsibilities
Receive, prepare, and distribute food to satellite kitchens.
Supervise and train incarcerated individual workers.
Maintain kitchen equipment and order supplies.
Keep accurate records and prepare reports.
Assist with ordering of food items and produce.
Perform additional duties as required.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of food preparation, cooking (including baking), dispensing, and serving, with an emphasis on nutritional value and HACCP procedures.
Experience in kitchen sanitation, safety measures, and compliance with the California Retail Food Code.
Ability to supervise, train, and manage inmates in a kitchen setting.
Proficiency with inventory control, requisitioning, and basic computer usage.
Capability to plan and conduct in‑service training for inmates.
Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in a kitchen environment.
Willingness to promote an inclusive, equitable workplace.
