RN (Part-Time) - Sherwood Oaks Post Acute (Healthcare) Registered Nurse (RN) involved in supervising the day-to-day nursing activities of the facility during the shift, ensuring adherence to current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations. May be required by the Director of Nursing (DON) and/or Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) to ensure the highest quality of care at all times. Responsibilities

Administrative Functions Assist the Director of Nursing Services in directing the day-to-day functions of nursing activities in accordance with current rules, regulations, and guidelines for the long-term care facility. Participate in developing, maintaining, and updating written policies and procedures for the nursing service department. Ensure reference material (e.g., PDRs, regulations, professional standards) at nurses\' stations is current; recommend materials to meet residents\' day-to-day needs. Keep the Nursing Service Procedures Manual current and representative of daily nursing procedures. Ensure nursing service personnel comply with Nursing Service Procedures Manual. Provide written and oral reports/recommendations to the Director as necessary concerning the nursing service department. Periodically review department policies, procedures, and job descriptions; recommend revisions. Assist in coordinating nursing services with other resident services to ensure continuity of care. Ensure staff compliance with their job descriptions. Participate in the facility\'s quality assurance program for the nursing service department. Participate in facility surveys (inspections) as requested by Administration. Review and update resident discharge plans as required; assist in planning nursing services portion of discharge plans. Meet with nursing staff and support personnel to plan department services, programs, and activities. Admit, transfer, and discharge residents as required. Complete accident/incident reports as necessary. Interpret department policies and procedures to staff, residents, visitors, and government agencies as required. Perform administrative duties such as completing medical forms, reports, evaluations, and charting as necessary. Protect resident information and report violations; maintain confidentiality. Committee Functions Attend facility committee meetings (e.g., Infection Control, Policy Advisory, Pharmaceutical, Quality Assessment) as required. Prepare written and/or oral reports of nursing service programs for committees. Provide information to the Quality Assurance and Assessment Committee as requested. Participate in developing the agenda for Care Plan Committee meetings as necessary. Participate in reviews of discharge plans and make plans available to the Care Plan Committee as required. Implement committee recommendations as instructed by the Director. Personnel Functions Ensure sufficient licensed practical and/or registered nurses are available during your tour to maintain quality care. Ensure sufficient certified nursing assistants are available to meet daily care needs. Develop work assignments and assist in completing tasks. Delegate administrative authority to Charge Nurse as needed. Ensure all nursing assistants are enrolled in or graduated from an approved nursing assistant program. Ensure nurse aide trainees are under direct supervision of a licensed nurse. Make daily rounds to ensure staff performance; report findings to the Director. Monitor absenteeism to maintain adequate staffing; report issues to the Director. Ensure adherence to policies and dress codes. Address complaints and grievances and report as required. Maintain good working relationships with inter-departmental staff and other departments. Foster a warm, supportive, calm environment; lead shift meetings to identify and address problems. Review staffing and departmental performance; make recommendations to the Director. Participate in performance evaluations and staffing decisions; advise on dismissals or transfers as needed. Ensure disciplinary actions are fair and non-discriminatory. Report occupational exposures to blood, body fluids, infectious materials, and hazardous chemicals per policy. Report fraud to the Administrator. Ensure unattended workstations are secured per policy. Nursing Care Functions Inform staff of new admissions, expected arrival times, and room assignments; prepare rooms for admissions. Greet new residents on admission and escort to rooms as needed. Greet and consult with physicians; ensure timely documentation of orders and notes. Notify physicians and next-of-kin of changes in resident condition. Daily rounds to evaluate residents\' physical and emotional status. Ensure direct nursing care by licensed staff or qualified aides. Review nurses\' notes for completeness and alignment with resident goals and wishes. Provide direct nursing care as needed. Perform IV starts, specimen collection, and routine assessments; take vital signs as needed. Manage admissions, transfers, and discharges as necessary. Report problems to the Director and assist in corrective actions. Keep the Director informed through written/oral reports. Assist in monitoring seriously ill residents; authorize use of restraints per policy. Ensure medication administration and storage procedures are followed by RNs and LPNs; monitor passes and schedules. Review medication cards for accuracy and adherence to policies. Maintain clean and safe nursing areas; check on residents unable to call for help. Meet with residents or families as necessary; arrange transportation for discharge when needed. Notify families of resident deaths and assist with related arrangements. Staff Development Participate in developing and scheduling in-service training; support ongoing education on OSHA, HIPAA, safety, infection control, etc. Assist in clinical supervision for nurse aide trainees. Attend continuing education to maintain licensure. Safety and Sanitation Assist in setting safety standards and infection control measures; ensure appropriate in-service training on exposure to blood/body fluids. Maintain PPE supplies and enforce proper usage and disposal. Ensure hand hygiene, fire drills, disaster preparedness, and infection control program compliance. Report hazardous conditions and ensure safe equipment operation. Ensure MSDSs are on file; maintain clean work areas and patient rooms. Equipment and Supply Functions Recommend equipment and supply needs; maintain adequate stock levels of medications and supplies. Assist in preventive maintenance planning for nursing equipment and supplies. Ensure trained personnel operate equipment; prevent waste and maintain MSDSs for chemicals. Care Plan and Assessment Functions Participate in assessments and care plans; involve residents in plan development. Review care plans for goals and revisions; ensure staff awareness of care plans. Assist in planning and revising the MDS, RAPs, and Triggers; ensure care plans align with treatments. Budget and Planning Functions Stay informed of economic conditions; suggest adjustments to nursing services to maintain quality care. Recommend equipment needs and report suspected fraud related to billing or cost reports. Qualifications

Education and/or Experience Must possess a Nursing Degree from an accredited college or university. Must have training in rehabilitative and restorative nursing practices. 2 years or more experience, preferably in a long-term care facility. Language Skills Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English. Ability to read technical procedures and policy manuals; effectively present information and respond to questions. Mathematical Skills Ability to apply fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Reasoning Ability Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when warranted and solve practical problems; communicate tactfully with residents, families, staff, and authorities; demonstrate leadership and supervisory ability; plan and implement programs and procedures for quality care; demonstrate patient care knowledge appropriate for age-related needs. Must be a team player and knowledgeable of nursing practices, regulations, and guidelines for nursing care facilities. Must be willing to adopt new methods and be patient, tactful, and positive. Must relate information concerning a resident\'s condition; must not pose a direct threat to others in the workplace. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Must possess a current, unencumbered RN license in the state; current CPR certification. PCC knowledge preferred. Maintain continuing education/licensing and good standing with the State Board of Nursing. Physical Demands Must be able to move intermittently; communicate effectively in English; cope with mental and emotional stress; see and hear adequately or use appropriate prosthetics. Must function independently with flexibility and integrity; work with residents, staff, and support agencies. Must meet health requirements including a medical and physical examination. Must be able to lift a minimum of 25 pounds, and push/pull/carry as needed; may assist in evacuations. Work Environment Office and nursing service areas with frequent interruptions; work with residents, staff, visitors, and agencies under various conditions; may require extended hours, weekends, and on-call; exposure to infectious materials and chemicals; requires safety and infection control adherence.
