Caltrans is seeking a Supervising Transportation Engineer to lead transportation project delivery in District 04, Sacramento County. The incumbent will provide technical and procedural support to ensure high‑quality, cost‑effective transportation projects within schedules and allocations.
Base Pay Range $13,892.00 – $15,782.00 per month

Job Description and Duties Under general direction of the Division Chief, the incumbent acts on their behalf to provide advice, assistance, approval, and concurrence to the districts, and provide timely technical and procedural support to districts to deliver high‑quality, cost‑effective transportation projects. Responsibilities include:
Providing policy advice on agency participation and funding.
Managing project priorities, costs, schedules, and programming.
Addressing project and route controversies, litigation, and alternative studies.
Overseeing multi‑modal considerations, managed lanes, and project quality deliverables.
Special Requirements This position will be filled via the California Department of Transportation Managerial Selection Program (MSP) process per California Code of Regulations 549.90.
Minimum Qualifications
Valid certificate of registration as a civil engineer issued by the California State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers.
Either:
One year of transportation engineering experience as a senior level engineer in the California state service; or
One year of supervisory or managerial experience equivalent to a Senior Transportation Planner in the California state service, and two years of civil engineering work at the Associate Engineer level or higher in the California state service; or
Broad and extensive (more than five years) transportation engineering experience, with two years equivalent in responsibility to the senior level engineer.
Examination Information The examination will assess each candidate’s experience and education. Submit all relevant documentation, including OOC documentation if applicable.
