Responsibilities Under the general direction of a Principal Transportation Engineer, the incumbent:
Develops stormwater and water quality best management practices, procedures, and methodologies for Caltrans project delivery, maintenance, and operations.
Coordinates new technologies and innovative uses of existing products, practices, and procedures related to stormwater and water quality management.
Oversees the Department’s statewide water quality monitoring program required by the National Pollution Discharge Elimination Permit (NPDES), state, and federal regulations.
Conducts and manages research and applied studies to meet water quality standards.
Provides technical guidance on stormwaterviado regulatory compliance and recommends solutions.
Minimum Requirements The applicant must be a valid certified civil engineer and meet one of the following criteria:
One year of transportation engineering experience as a senior‑level engineer in California state service.
One year of supervisory or managerial experience equivalent to a Senior Transportation Planner in California state service, plus two years as an Associate Engineer or higher in California state service.
Broad and extensive transportation engineering experience (more than five years), including at least two years at a senior level in California state service.
Working Conditions The position may be eligible for telework under Caltrans’ telework policy. In‑person attendance may be required based on operational needs. The selected candidate may be required to commute to the headquarters location and may need to travel for business purposes. All commute expenses to the headquarters will be the responsibility of the candidate.
