Job Summary Division Charge Nurse (DCN) is responsible for assuring quality care in the Children’s Hospital during her/his tour of duty. She/He is responsible for efficient management of nursing resources and patient safety, overseeing throughput across the enterprise for children and neonates.
Key Responsibilities
Resource Management – ensures adequate numbers of competent nurses are available, serves as a clinical and systems resource for nurses, and assists staff in planning for appropriate patient care delivery.
Professional Development – supervises nursing staff, provides guidance during orientation and ongoing professional development, and collaborates with the Director of Children’s Services and Patient Care Managers to assist with performance reviews.
Customer Service – develops collaborative relationships with physicians, ancillary staff, and the entire KCH team; interviews patients and families to ensure expectations are met; resolves conflicts among personnel, patients, physicians, and families.
Quality Patient Care – identifies problems with patient care and initiates actions for resolution, ensures policies and guidelines are followed, facilitates staff completion of competency requirements, and coordinates quality improvement projects for KCH and UKHC.
