Description Of Work This position is assigned to the Piedmont Region Maintenance Yard and is located in Clinton, NC. The primary purpose of this position is to perform routine, preventive, and corrective maintenance tasks, and repairs, ensuring that assigned systems within adult correction facilities and support buildings are maintained in a safe and efficient manner. This position is required to perform at the Journeyman Level in the General Construction/Carpentry Trades, and proficient at the Journeyman Level in at least one other trade such as, Fabrication and Welding, HVAC, Plumbing or Electrical. The role includes general construction tasks such as Metal Stud Framing, Drywall Installation and Finishing, Hollow Metal Component Installation, Finish Hardware Installation, Concrete Forming and Finishing, Flooring Renovations, Roofing Renovations, Vinyl Siding Installation, Suspended Ceiling Installation, Painting, and some Masonry. Routine preventive maintenance on HVAC Systems, electrical repairs to lighting and building wiring, and plumbing repairs to potable and wastewater drainage systems may also be required. Supervision of a semi-skilled and unskilled inmate labor workforce to assist with the completion of tasks is mandatory. A valid NC Driver’s License or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire is required. This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits.

If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. Based upon these factors, a pay increase MAY result.

About The NC Dept. Of Adult Correction (DAC) The Dept. of Adult Correction is responsible for the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced after conviction for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes State Prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as the division of Community Supervision. Other divisions include Administration, Compliance and Accreditation, Comprehensive Health Services, Internal Affairs and Intelligence Operations, Post-Release Supervision and Parole Commission, and Rehabilitation and Reentry.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities / Management Preferences

Salary Range: $39,671-$69,426

Pay Grade: NC09

Ability to effectively communicate verbally with supervisor and coworkers and understand verbal and written instructions and communications regarding work assignments.

Working knowledge of Building Design and Systems.

Documented knowledge of new construction and/or building renovation practices.

Ability to read, comprehend and understand blueprints, drawings and schematics.

Experience with the methods, practices, tools and machinery.

Ability to estimate building materials in all aspects of construction and renovations.

Working knowledge of the practices, methods, materials and/or equipment used in the maintenance and repair of building electrical systems and building systems.

Working knowledge of the methods of installation and repair of plumbing systems.

Experience with the installation and repair of general HVAC equipment and construction equipment.

Proven computer skills sufficient for e‑mail, work order processing, time entries, performance evaluations, and/or product research.

Must have a current valid NC State Driver’s License.

Minimum Education And Experience High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two (2) years of progressive experience in the assigned trade areas; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Necessary Special Qualification may require current certification by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by Title 40, Code of Federal Regulations Part 82, Subpart F.
