Description Of Work This position is assigned to the Piedmont Region Maintenance Yard and is located in Asheboro, NC. The primary purpose of this position is to perform routine, preventive, and corrective maintenance tasks and repairs, ensuring that assigned systems within adult correction facilities and support buildings are maintained in a safe and efficient manner.
Responsibilities:
Perform general construction tasks such as metal stud framing, drywall installation and finishing, hollow metal component installation, finish hardware installation, concrete forming and finishing, flooring renovations, roofing renovations, vinyl siding installation, suspended ceiling installation, painting, and some masonry.
Perform routine preventive maintenance on HVAC systems.
Repair electrical components including lighting and building wiring.
Repair plumbing components to potable and wastewater drainage systems.
Supervise a semi‑skilled and unskilled inmate labor workforce to assist with task completion.
Obtain a valid NC Driver’s License or acquire one within 30 days of hire.
This is a full‑time position (40 hours per week) with state benefits. At the Journeyman Level in the General Construction/Carpentry Trades and proficient at the Journeyman Level in at least one additional trade such as fabrication and welding, HVAC, plumbing or electrical.
Note To Current State Employees State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position. If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. Based upon these factors, a pay increase MAY result.
Minimum Education And Experience High school or GED diploma and two (2) years of progressive experience in the assigned trade areas; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Certification may be required by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician, as required by Title 40, Code of Federal Regulations Part 82, Subpart F.
Salary Range $39,671 – $69,426
