What You'll Be Doing Are you someone who enjoys connecting the dots, keeping things running smoothly and making sure the details truly matter? If you answered 'YES' the Wake County Sheriff's Office is looking for a Finance Coordinator who is ready to play a central role in supporting operations at our detention facility. In this role, you will provide supervision and leadership to shift staff within the Inmate Finance and Property Division, which operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week. You will plan, assign and oversee daily work activities, preparing shift schedules and delegating responsibilities to the Detention Finance Technician. You will be responsible for reviewing and approving time records, conducting performance evaluations and administering corrective or disciplinary actions in accordance with county policies, serving as the primary point of contact for Detention staff on duty, and facilitating the resolution of operational issues, inquiries and emergent concerns. Additionally, you will investigate inquiries from the public or inmates regarding financial or property matters and, in cases involving reported property losses, prepare and submit documentation to the county’s Insurance and Risk Management division for review and resolution.

Essential Functions

Supervise shift employees in a 24/7 operational environment

Review staff timesheets for accuracy and approve payroll submissions each pay period

Approve or deny staff vacation requests in accordance with scheduling needs

Maintain accurate staff attendance records

Assess staffing levels and request overtime authorization from management when necessary

Communicate with the manager promptly regarding operational or personnel issues

Serve as the primary contact to resolve issues with residents or members of the public

Address resident grievances and assign or follow up on resident requests daily

Act as liaison between jail staff, Accounts Payable, Records, and other internal detention personnel

Ensure compliance with departmental policies and procedures

Exercise sound judgement to make decisions in special situations not clearly defined by procedures

Maintain adequate supplies and manage inventory records accurately

Create and submit maintenance and technical work orders as needed

The Basics (Required Education and Experience)

High school diploma or GED

Experience in accounting, bookkeeping, cash management, and adherence to proper inventory principles for liability and control

Supplemental courses in accounting and business practices

Training as a cashier or bank teller, or a professional that involves money handling, inventory control and computer studies

Equivalent education and experience are accepted
