The Payroll Specialist works closely with HR and management on payroll-related issues, audits, and system initiatives.
Duties & Responsibilities
Process assigned multi-state payrolls accurately and on schedule, including new hires and terminations
Process bonuses, commissions, awards, and additional pays
Process short‑term disability payments
Process pay increases and employee transfers
Review payrolls to identify errors or discrepancies and partner with payroll coordinators to resolve issues
Prepare payroll import files for bonuses, commissions, awards, and other special payments
Ensure timely and accurate submission of payroll‑related data to meet processing deadlines
Reconcile and balance payroll and benefit funding and submit wire requests
Analyze, validate, and remit employee benefit deductions
Assist with payroll tax‑related inquiries and resolutions as needed
Support internal and external audits by collecting and providing required documentation
Prepare ad hoc payroll reports and perform data analysis as requested by management
Provide ongoing assistance and support to payroll system users
Participate in payroll system conversions, upgrades, and related project teams
Assist with year‑end payroll activities, including W‑2 processing and distribution
Establish and maintain positive working relationships with HR, supervisors, and managers
Skills Required
Bachelor’s Degree in
Accounting or Finance
+5 years of payroll or accounting experience
Experience processing multi‑state payrolls with knowledge of payroll taxes and employee benefits, including 401(k), HSA, FSA, and related plans (preferred)
Prior experience with SAP, UKG, and Kronos payroll systems (preferred)
Proficient in Microsoft Excel, including use of VLOOKUPs and Pivot Tables
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Strong organizational skills with the ability to work under tight deadlines and manage multiple priorities
