Position Overview

A Horticulture Team Leader is an experienced team member who directs the activities of a team of two or more members on a job.

Operates a variety of equipment and has thorough horticultural knowledge as well as lighting, water garden, and irrigation.

Job Functions

Review job notes for clear understanding of scope of work to be performed on a daily basis.

Plan daily tasks, labor, and equipment for current and next day’s work.

Read, measure, and interpret landscape plans.

Work knowledge and understanding of pesticides used.

Mix and apply various pesticides using proper PPE and application techniques.

Lead team members performing landscape services such as bed maintenance, pruning, plant health, irrigation, water features, lighting, and floral services.

Perform spring clean‑ups, blowing, snow removal, and other tasks as required.

Operate small and medium duty tools and equipment such as hedge trimmers, backpack blowers, bed edgers, chainsaw, string trimmer, and more.

Identify enhancement ideas to improve client properties and submit via issue tickets.

Learn and maintain knowledge of all properties, responsibilities, and limits of work.

Working Conditions Time will be spent in an outdoor environment with limited ability to control noise, airborne contaminants, and temperature. Be able to lift 50 pounds regularly.

The team member is expected to work assigned hours Monday through Friday as well as weekends & overtime as dictated by seasonal needs. This is an hourly wage position with a normally expected workday of 6:50 AM until 5:00 PM.

Requirements

A high school diploma or GED and two years of documented experience in the green industry.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to use Apple technology for time tracking and job management.

Strong analytical problem‑solving and decision‑making ability.

Excellent customer service skills and ability to communicate with clients and professionals.

Ability to use Google translate efficiently to communicate with Spanish speaking workers.

Responsible for training and coaching a team of two or more team members.

Maintain a clean, safe, and efficient job site and ensure truck/tools/equipment are properly maintained.

Ensure daily tasks are completed on schedule and budget to quality standard.

Return all tools to the shop at the end of the workday and tag any tools needing repairs.

Drive truck & trailer combinations.

Maintain a neat and clean professional appearance.

Perform daily check‑ins with Group Leader by 3:00 PM.

Work as a team member throughout Southern Landscape Group with a positive attitude.

Know and support the company’s vision, mission, and core values.

Certifications

Valid Virginia driver’s license with insurable driving record.

VDACS Registered Tech Certification.

CPR/First Aid Certification.

NALP Landscape Technician Cert. – Landscape Install & Irrigation.

VCH (Skilled).

Salary Description Starts at $20.51 depending on experience.
