Job Overview
The Staff Accountant plays a vital role in ensuring the financial integrity of the organization. This position supports daily accounting operations, grant and donor fund tracking, and accurate financial reporting in alignment with nonprofit accounting standards. The Staff Accountant ensures that stewardship of resources reflects excellence, transparency, and accountability consistent with our Christian mission.
Reporting REPORTS TO: Director of Accounting Services
RELATES TO: CBF Constituents, CBF Staff, CBF Foundation & Fund Development, CBF Field Personnel
Responsibilities General Ledger & Financial Close
Prepare journal entries including recurring entries, reclassifications, and accruals.
Perform monthly bank, credit card, and balance sheet reconciliations.
Assist with month-end and year-end closing procedures.
Maintain orderly supporting documentation and audit trails.
Track restricted contributions and release restrictions in accordance with grant or donor intent.
Assist in preparing grant invoices, progress reports, and compliance support.
Coordinate with development staff to ensure accurate donor revenue coding.
Reporting & Compliance
Assist with internal monthly financial statements and department budget-to-actual reports.
Participate in annual audit and preparation of audit schedules.
Support accurate record retention and policy compliance.
Requirements Education Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field.
Experience 2+ years of accounting experience; nonprofit accounting preferred, understanding of GAAP and nonprofit accounting. Experience with donor management software. Experience tracking grants or mission partner funding. Experience in ministry or faith-based nonprofit environment.
Skills
Proficiency in accounting software such as Sage Intacct.
Intermediate Excel skills.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and strong attention to detail.
Demonstrates integrity, humility, compassion, and a spirit of service.
Capable of multitasking with a sense of urgency regarding deadlines.
Ability to interface professionally with all levels of the organization.
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
Comfortable participating in prayer, Scripture reflection, and team fellowship as part of organizational culture.
Physical While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to remain stationary, communicate and exchange information. May be required to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make the discriminations in sound.
