Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) is seeking a Quality Assurance Specialist III to join the Quality Assurance Unit in Austin, TX. This full‑time position offers a competitive salary range of $5,521.16–$6,779.25 per month and includes benefits such as 100% paid health insurance and a defined benefit pension plan. Job Information: Posting Number: 12466 Agency: Health & Human Services Commission Department: Quality Assurance Location: 701 W 51ST St., Austin, TX Shift: Day (Monday–Friday, 8 AM–5 PM) Telework: Eligible; travel up to 5% Full Time: Yes Exempt: No (non‑exempt) Closing Date: July 6, 2026 Responsibilities include: Serve as a Quality Assurance Monitoring Specialist, reviewing complaints and incidents for long‑term care, home & community support services, acute care, and substance abuse programs. Screen daily intakes of abuse, neglect, and exploitation allegations to determine violations and prioritize triage. Edit and ensure accuracy of intake reports before electronic submission to regional offices. Interpret regulatory policies and provide consultation to agency staff, providers, advocates, and regulators. Act as liaison between the Complaint Intake Unit and regional field operations. Participate in special projects and workgroups as assigned. Communicate complex information to internal and external stakeholders and resolve inquiries. Essential Job Functions (approximate time allocation): 35% Evaluate long‑term and non‑long‑term complaints related to abuse/neglect/exploitation of vulnerable populations and prioritize accordingly (24‑hour or 2‑day). 10% Conduct quality assurance reviews to determine jurisdiction and refer non‑jurisdictional complaints to appropriate agencies. 10% Interpret policies, procedures, and regulations for the Complaint and Incident Intake. 10% Communicate with CII staff, CMS, State Regional staff, and other customers to verify intake information and resolve matters. 10% Identify trends, collaborate with management, and develop compliance solutions. 10% Manage high‑profile complaints and incidents involving minors, legislative inquiries, or public interest. 5% Serve as liaison on complex issues with CMS, Joint Commission, DFPS, and DSHS. 5% Maintain current knowledge by reviewing literature, attending meetings, or communicating with professionals. 5% Perform other duties as assigned. Required Registrations, Licensures, or Certifications: Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) or Registered Nurse (RN) SMQT Medical Technologist / Laboratory Technician Surgical Assistant Emergency Medical Technician End Stage Renal Disease / Dialysis Technician Other healthcare licenses, degrees, or certifications Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations related to regulatory programs. Knowledge of healthcare principles, practices, and procedures. Effective verbal and written communication and presentation skills. Judgment, decision‑making, prioritization, and problem‑solving skills. Initial Screening Criteria: Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree from an accredited institution, or nursing licensure (RN/LVN). Preferred experience in Long‑Term Care Program, HCSSA Program, or Acute Care Program. Ability to work Monday‑Friday, 8 AM‑5 PM. Additional Information: Telework employees will not be reimbursed for travel to the office and are responsible for providing required infrastructure. Applicants must pass a fingerprint and criminal background check prior to employment. Employment is full‑time with travel to the office as business needs require. HHSC does not pay for additional equipment or phone lines for teleworkers.
