Overview
MiraCosta College is accepting applications to build a pool of instructors for possible future part-time assignments at all locations. The department chairperson or designee will review applications as vacancies become available. Instructors may be assigned to any campus or authorized facility. The transcripts must state the degree title, major, and date awarded. Minimum qualifications include: Master’s degree in gerontology OR master’s degree in psychology (an approved minimum qualification degree title for teaching gerontology at MiraCosta College) OR bachelor’s degree in psychology AND master’s degree in counseling, sociology, statistics, neuroscience or social work (an approved minimum qualification degree title for teaching gerontology at MiraCosta College) OR a valid appropriate California Community College Credential in the discipline area OR see Interdisciplinary Studies OR the equivalent AND have sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of community college students. Basic Function:
Under direction, plan, organize and teach assigned courses in an instructional field or discipline in accordance with approved course outlines, education code requirements and faculty contract provisions; provide feedback and guidance to students and evaluate student performance; and perform related duties as assigned. Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Plan, organize and develop instructional materials including presentations, lectures, demonstrations, homework assignments, laboratory exercises and project assignments; teach courses using sound pedagogical methods and instructional strategies; modify methods to meet diverse student needs; participate in development and assessment of student learning outcomes (SLOs); use instructional technologies to enrich and facilitate learning; participate in the review and selection of textbooks and other materials. Provide prompt feedback on student assignments; evaluate performance; assign grades and maintain records; submit and post grades by established deadlines. Be available to students by telephone, email, LMS, or conference; meet office hours; maintain a flexible schedule; refer students to other faculty or campus resources as needed. Maintain accurate course records; record attendance using course management software; submit attendance by deadlines; maintain confidentiality of student information. Contribute to maintaining a collegial environment; collaborate with department chairs and other faculty; substitute for other faculty when needed; participate in campus life and committees as assigned. Meet professional responsibilities in accordance with contractual obligations. Other Duties: Stay current in the discipline and maintain licensure/certification as appropriate May lead field trips and related activities Perform related duties as assigned Knowledge To Theory and concepts applicable to the discipline; teaching and instructional techniques; educational technologies including online learning and LMS State education code, Title 5 and related laws Instructional techniques for diverse students District organization and resources; safety policies Ability To Convey theories and content clearly to a diverse student population Use instructional technologies to maximize learning Encourage critical thinking and problem-solving Evaluate and return student work promptly Maintain accurate records and confidentiality of student information Meet teaching responsibilities with flexibility for student access Stay current in the field through professional development Communicate effectively in writing and speech Operate a computer and standard software Demonstrate sensitivity to diverse student backgrounds Establish and maintain effective working relationships Physical/Working Conditions Primarily classroom and office environments; may require evenings/weekends; occasional travel between district locations.
