Administrative Support Assistant 3 – Motor Carrier Services (Ankeny) Join the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Vehicle Services team to support statewide driver and vehicle registration services. This role administers vehicle titles, registration, special plates, and disability placards, providing high‑quality customer service to the public and state agencies.

Shift & Location Monday to Friday; 40 hours per week Customer Service Bureau, Motor Vehicle Division, Ankeny, IA 50021

Responsibilities

Review and process applications for special license plates, official titles, registrations, and plates, including county, school, and municipal entities.

Enter application data into the Vehicle Registration & Titling (VRT) System and approve or deny applications based on qualifications and fees.

Process bonded title applications, calculate bond amounts, maintain files, and notify investigators of discrepancies.

Determine eligibility and issue Persons with Disabilities (PWD) placards and institutional placards to qualifying agencies.

Answer telephone calls and walk‑in customer inquiries, providing information about processes and processing applications at the counter.

Minimum Qualifications

Two years of full‑time general office, clerical, data entry, processing, or related experience; or equivalent education and experience (30 semester hours = 1 year of experience).

Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch, including at least six months as an Administrative Support Assistant 2 or 18 months as an Administrative Support Assistant 1.

Ability to review applications for accuracy based on established laws, rules, and procedures.

Experience entering data into a complex IT transactional system for orders or programs.

Customer service experience in fulfillment of mail and online orders.

Written communication experience, especially in e‑mail and business letters; verbal communication experience resolving customer issues over the phone.
