Overview
Come join the Iowa DOT to support the statewide Vehicle Services Team! The Iowa Department of Transportation's Vehicle Services team is made up of seven employees. These dedicated employees provide polite, quality and professional customer service and meet customer needs in all program areas of the office. This position supports the customer service needs of the Vehicle Services Department by administering the state's Official Vehicle Title and Registrations, Title Bonds, Personalized and Specialty plates and Persons with Disabilities placards and stickers. Iowa DOT’s Mission is “Making Lives Better Through Transportation.” As an Administrative Support Assistant 3, you’ll support this mission. What you will need to succeed in this position
Ability to review applications for accuracy based on established laws, rules and procedures Experience entering data into a complex IT transactional system to fulfill orders or programs Customer service experience for fulfillment of mail and on-line orders Written communication experience, especially to communicate clearly and concisely with customers through e-mails and business letters Verbal communication experience, specifically to resolve customer issues through phone calls
The specific tasks for this position may include any or all of the following
Review customer applications and requests for all special license plates. Verify ownership and documentation. Take appropriate action to approve or deny the plate application based on the qualifications and fees. Enter information into the Vehicle Registration & Titling (VRT) System. Return incomplete and denied applications to customer. Review and approve applications for the issuance of official titles, registrations and plates to state, county, school and city governmental entities. Enter application information into the VRT System. Send title, registration and plates, if necessary, to appropriate agency. Review plate requests for issuance. Review and process bonded title applications and supporting documents when Code/Rule requirements are met. Research and establish vehicle data, determine and establish bond amount. Maintain bond application files. Enter vehicle and bond data on to the VR&T System. Notify BIIP Investigator with vehicle discrepancies. Review and determine eligibility for issuance of persons with disabilities (PWD), placards, and stickers. Determine eligibility for issuance of institutional placards to agencies who transport persons with disabilities. Answer phones to help answer application specific questions and general questions regarding our processes and work our customer service counter to help walk-in customers as well as those with appointments.
