Patient Access Representative – Emergency

Part‑time position (24 hrs/week) with a 2 weekend on / 1 weekend off rotation, including holiday rotation. Seniority Level

Week 1: Sunday 9:00 AM – 9:30 PM, Saturday 6:30 AM – 7:00 PM Week 2: Sunday 6:30 AM – 7:00 PM, Friday 9:00 AM – 9:30 PM Week 3: Friday 6:30 AM – 7:00 PM, Saturday 9:00 AM – 9:30 PM Training

First two weeks of training will be Monday‑Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM. Must be able to attend. Location

Onsite, Grand Rapids Emergency Department, Jefferson Ave Minimum Qualifications

1 year of customer service experience, required High school diploma or equivalent HFMA CRCR or NAHAM CHAA certification required within one (1) year of hire Additional Qualifications (Nice to have)

Medical terminology knowledge; understanding of diagnostic & procedural coding; experience with insurance verification and benefit explanation, and ability to secure necessary authorizations. Purpose

Provides patient‑focused customer service. Performs outpatient and/or inpatient registration and insurance verification functions; collects patient financial liability payments and ensures patients meet financial requirements, including Medicare medical necessity, payer pre‑certifications & referrals. Provides general information to hospital users, patients, families and physician offices. Essential Functions

Responsible for analyzing information, identifying opportunities, developing solutions and leading through resolution. Collaborates on performance improvement activities to enhance program efficiency and patient experience. Distributes analytical reports. Utilizes multiple system applications to perform analysis, create reports, and develop educational materials. Incorporates basic knowledge of Trinity Health policies, practices and processes to ensure quality, confidentiality and safety are prioritized. Demonstrates knowledge of departmental processes, procedures and ability to acquire new knowledge readily. Researches, compiles, and analyzes data to support ad‑hoc operational projects and initiatives. Synthesizes data and provides detailed summaries, including graphical presentations, trends and recommendations while considering business strategy and supporting leadership decision‑making. Leverages program and operational data and measurements to define and demonstrate progress, ROI and impacts. Maintains a working knowledge of applicable federal, state and local laws, Trinity Health Integrity & Compliance program, Code of Conduct, and other policies to ensure adherence reflecting ethical behavior and safe work practices.
