New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable.

Job Description and Duties The Psychiatric Technician (Safety) operates under the supervision of the Chief Psychologist or Senior Psychologist. Responsibilities include:
Organizing and aiding in the facilitation of social cognition groups.
Assisting with computer‑based neurocognitive rehabilitation programs.
Providing daily supportive contact with patients in the neurocognitive rehabilitation program to support clinical progress toward patient goals.
Delivering a basic level of general nursing, behavioral, and psychiatric nursing care in accordance with policies, procedures, and regulations.
Ensuring timely health‑care delivery and supporting the health‑care team in daily operations.
Communicating effectively with patients and the health‑care team.
Addressing the ongoing needs of patients and promoting cost‑effective use of health‑care resources.
Applicants must be willing to work in any unit/program and shift to meet facility needs.
Minimum Qualifications
Valid license to practice as a Psychiatric Technician issued by BVNPTE.
For applicants within four months of completing the BVNPTE‑accredited curriculum, admission to the examination is permitted, but the license must be secured prior to appointment.
Permanent civil‑service status, reachable on an employment list, transfer eligibility, or reinstatement eligibility.

Department Information Metropolitan State Hospital is located in Norwalk, 15 miles east of Los Angeles, with an open campus within a security perimeter. The hospital operates approximately 826 beds and treats patients under various mandates, including the LPS Act and Offenders with Mental Health Disorders.
