TEMPORARY Roving Invasive Species Technician – Gunnison, CO This is a 9‑month temporary position (paid $19.50 per hour) with the Colorado Department of Natural Resources. Employment starts 04/11/2026 and ends 11/07/2026.

The primary responsibility is to support the State Aquatic Nuisance Species (ANS) Program by inspecting and decontaminating watercraft at various locations throughout Colorado. Work is performed independently or in pairs, inspecting boats at reservoir launch areas and providing public outreach to non‑motorized water recreation groups. Tasks include trailering equipment, inventory management, reviewing technical reports, and data entry. The role may require overnight travel and driving, early morning, evening, weekend, and holiday work.

Responsibilities • Inspect and decontaminate watercraft for invasive species such as zebra/quagga mussels. • Conduct public outreach and distribute printed materials. • Trailers equipment and mobile cleaning stations throughout southwest Colorado. • Perform quality‑control assessments, inventory management, and data entry. • Provide support to Program Manager and Specialists as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Excellent driving record and ability to travel extensively with overnight stays.

Ability to drive long distances and remain alert.

Availability to work weekends, holidays, early mornings, and late evenings.

Willingness to be flexible with scheduling; fieldwork may be dictated by weather.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills and willingness to engage the public.

Reliable, timely, and organized with attention to detail.

Ability to self‑motivate and work independently.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with boats, trailers, power washers, small engines, or heavy equipment.

Willingness to travel and stay away from home regularly; camping may be required in remote settings; provide own gear.

Ability to trailer boats and cleaning units on highways and steep mountain roads.

Excellent customer‑service skills.

Experience with Microsoft and Google applications.

Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences or related field.
