Job Description As a Transportation Technician in Construction for the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) – Region Two’s Construction Crew 2759 – you will play a crucial role in ensuring state roads are safe, efficient, and well maintained. You will perform inspections, material testing, equipment operation, and project administration, and after 18 months will be cross‑trained in various construction and maintenance roles.

The Position Construction Transportation Technician II – Region Two’s Construction Crew 2759.

Principle Duties

Assist with the inspection and documentation of UDOT construction projects.

Perform material testing to ensure compliance with project specifications.

Document construction inspections for work performed by contractors.

Work with contractors to complete construction, maintenance, and permit projects.

Assist with snow removal operations when cross‑trained in maintenance roles.

Complete other duties as assigned by department leadership.

Minimum Qualifications

Valid Class "A" Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or ability to obtain one within 6 months of hire.

Residence within a 30‑minute response time of the Region Boundary.

24‑hour availability.

Self‑provide a smartphone with data (eligible for a monthly taxable allowance).

Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.

Reliable, team‑oriented.

Willingness to complete continued education in the UDOT Transportation Technician Education Program (TEP).

Obtain required certifications within the first year and maintain them.

Position may be filled at the Transportation Technician I level for applicants who do not meet the preferences listed below but have a Class "A" CDL or can obtain one within one year of hire.

Preferences

Current UDOT or Seasonal UDOT employee.

Class "A" Commercial Driver's License.

Transportation Education Program (TEP) Training.

Construction experience on highway or local roadway projects.

UDOT maintenance/construction experience.

Professional work experience operating heavy equipment.

Professional experience with roadway maintenance and snow removal.

Supplemental Information

Registration with the FMCSA Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse is required for all CDL holders.

Pre‑employment drug testing and random drug and alcohol testing post‑hire.

Potential reassignment to a different location as deemed necessary by the Region Director/Group Leader.

Position requires frequent exposure to traffic hazards and environmental conditions.

Physical demands include standing, walking on rough surfaces, bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, and lifting up to 50 lbs. regularly.
