About the role Mater Group Finance are looking for an experienced and drivenFinancial Accounting Supervisor for the Mater Health entity to join their team.This is a permanent, full-time position based in our purpose-built offices at Newstead.
Reporting to the Financial Manager Accounting, the Financial Accounting Supervisor role is crucial in overseeing the financial accounting of the Parent entity and ensuring precise preparation of comprehensive financial statements, including monthly and quarterly Balance Sheet and P&L reconciliations.
You will conduct thorough review and variance analysis in a timely manner, ensuring compliance with Australian Accounting Standards, Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC) regulations and Mater's policies and procedures. Additionally, the role will involve leading, managing, developing, and delegating to a team of direct reports.
The key duties of the role will include (but not limited to):
Lead the delivery of financial accounting services across the Mater Health Services (Parent) entity
Provide strong leadership, direction and coaching to ensure staff possess the skills and knowledge required to achieve business objectives and meet deliverables
Maintain finance ledgers in a timely (month end), accurate, and complete manner, structured to provide relevant information to internal users and meet statutory reporting requirements
Oversee the completion, review, and sign‑off of monthly and quarterly Balance Sheet and P&L general ledger reconciliations
Prepare full statutory financial statement work papers (half year, interim and year end), including note disclosures and variance analysis, in compliance with Australian Accounting Standards and ACNC requirements
Support the external audit process by coordinating all necessary information
Act as the senior subject matter expert and establish a community of practice for all assigned Mater entities in accounting
Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in business systems and processes within the work area and area of expertise and drive implementation initiatives
Review processes and implement quality improvements to enhance efficiency and effectiveness
About you The ideal candidate will be an experienced Finance Manager with over 7 years of direct Senior Financial Accountant experience, preferably showcasing strong leadership skills to manage a team of 6 direct reports.
You must hold a Professional Accounting Qualification (CA/CPA) with significant experience in financial accounting and statutory reporting, with a preference for a background in the healthcare sector or other large and complex industries
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills are essential, with a proven ability to effectively communicate with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders
Be capable of presenting financial information to both financial and non‑financial audiences
Be curious and ability to lead continuous improvement and automation
Demonstrated ability to collaborate with individuals from various backgrounds and foster a culture of continuous improvement by challenging conventional practices
Excellent time management, prioritisation and organisational skills
