Position Overview Winston‑Salem State University (WSSU) is a distinguished institution committed to fostering student success. As a Building Environmental Service Technician, you will perform custodial duties for campus buildings, ensuring cleanliness and safety for students, faculty, and staff.

Responsibilities

Daily routine cleaning and resupply of assigned work areas.

Basic cleaning tasks including sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, dusting, disinfecting, vacuuming, and trash removal.

Refill dispensers (tissue, soap) to appropriate amounts with proper product.

Clean restroom floors, commodes, urinals, sinks, mirrors, and dispensers.

Detail cleaning of assigned areas, including dusting and glass cleaning.

Perform project‑related tasks such as floor care, deep restroom cleaning, and occasional outdoor custodial tasks.

Submit supply requests on a regular basis as directed by supervisor.

Turn laundry in for regular cleaning, monitor equipment for malfunction, and correct minor equipment issues (e.g., replace vacuum bags or filters).

Collaborate with peers, assist where needed, share resources and information, and provide excellent customer service to students, faculty, and staff.

Communicate professionally with staff, completing mandatory forms such as sign‑in/sign‑out for attendance and university property/equipment.

Maintain a healthy and safe working environment by reporting equipment malfunctions, adhering to safety standards, and labeling and storing materials appropriately.

Location: 1602 Lowery St, Winston‑Salem, NC 27110

Work Hours: 4 pm – 1 am / 3 pm – 12 am Monday – Friday (40 hrs/week)

Qualifications

Some knowledge of cleaning procedures and the ability to perform medium to heavy physical work.

Experience with institutional cleaning in an educational setting, preferably higher education.

Familiarity with a variety of cleaning equipment (vacuums, burnishers, scrubbers, extractors, wet vacs).

Demonstrated flexibility in adjusting to changes in job tasks and assignments.

Valid US Driver’s License (commercial license not required).

Physical ability to fulfill the job’s requirements.

Salary $33,540 – $47,847
