Job Overview Under the direction of Stone Laboratory’s management, the Facilities Operations Technician 2 assists with and coordinates the maintenance of all facilities, grounds, vehicles and related equipment at The Ohio State University.

Responsibilities

Coordinate maintenance of all facilities, grounds, vehicles and related equipment.

Assist the facilities and maintenance leader with minor carpentry, painting, drywall, plumbing and electrical tasks.

Operate and maintain equipment such as mowers, trimmers, chainsaws, tractors and the motor vehicle fleet.

Maintain inventory, care and organization of tools and equipment.

Conduct routine vehicle maintenance checks, including oil changes, tire maintenance, cleaning and annual safety inspections.

Obtain cost estimates and collaborate with third‑party vendors on vehicle repairs, grounds improvements and equipment maintenance.

Facilitate vehicle use with the Stone Laboratory business office and adhere to OSU policy and procedures related to vehicle maintenance and reporting.

Assist with pick‑up and delivery of food orders and freight as needed.

Assist with weekly trash removal from all grounds.

Assist with seasonal deployment of laboratory equipment (e.g., buoys) and infrastructure (vessels and docks).

Provide updates and reports to Stone Lab management and the Director during weekly staff meetings and as needed.

Identify and communicate issues related to general operation.

Coordinate and guide other part‑time and student staff and volunteers on assigned duties.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications Years of relevant experience required: 1 year; Preferred minimum years of relevant experience: 2‑4.

Location: Stone Laboratory (0118), Put‑in‑Bay, OH

Position type: Seasonal

Scheduled hours: 40 per week

Shift: First Shift

Season: early Spring to late Fall (flexible start and end dates)

Probationary period: 180 days

Final candidates are subject to successful completion of a background check. A drug screen or physical may be required during the post‑offer process.
