Job Description TITLE:
Skilled Bus Mechanic
Qualifications
Must be 18 years of age or older
Obtain / Maintain Minimum Oklahoma Class B Commercial Driver License with Passenger and School Bus Endorsements
Obtain / Maintain Oklahoma State Department of Education school bus driver certificate
Obtain / Maintain current ASE certification for school buses.
Pass a Department of Transportation physical examination at a facility designated by the Transportation Department including drug and alcohol test
Lift and carry seventy-five (75) pounds across forty (40) feet of level ground
Have own supply of hand tools and air tools needed to work on small vehicles, large trucks, and buses
Education:
High School diploma, GED or equivalent.
Experience:
Two or more years in auto and diesel mechanics preferred. Some training may be substituted for actual experience.
Reports To:
Shop Foreman
Skills, Knowledge, Abilities Mechanic must have knowledge of gas and diesel equipment, transmissions, front ends, brakes, drive line, electrical and charging systems, etc. Mechanic must perform work involving welding, brazing, shop presses, air tools, jacks, dollies and automotive equipment and tools. Responsible for parts and preventative maintenance schedules in the absence of shop foreman.
Performance Responsibilities
Diagnosing and repairing district buses and automotive equipment.
Responsible for performing and assisting in the maintenance and repairs of all vehicles.
Perform all required inspections of all types of vehicles.
Complete and submit all paperwork.
Promote high standard of safety and good housekeeping methods in all work connected areas.
Assist in the training of garage employees.
Obey all traffic laws and District Policy.
Observe all mandatory safety regulations for school buses and complete proper paperwork.
Report all accidents and complete required reports.
Keep and maintain assigned schedule.
Properly document all mechanical and safety problems pertaining to district equipment as found.
A working knowledge of any additional equipment necessary to properly perform all duties.
Perform all other duties as assigned.
Terms of Employment Twelve month year. Salary and work year to be according to the current schedule.
Evaluation Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Administrative Personnel.
