Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Level 3 NICU position requiring a SD or compact license and expertise in neonatal critical care.
Responsibilities
Position is in a Level 3 NICU with 28 beds and an average census of 13-16 patients
Provides care to neonates of all gestational ages, including cases such as low birth weight, feeders/growers, high frequency ventilation, nitric oxide, and total body cooling
RN patient ratios range from 1:1 to 1:4, depending on acuity
12‑hour variable shifts are required, with options for 36 or 48‑hour contracts
Care is provided using EPIC EMR, with Alaris pumps and Omnicell medication dispensing systems
Floating may be required to PICU, Pediatrics, Postpartum, Newborn Nursery, or for adult constant observation overflow
Weekend rotations are not required, but travelers may work mostly weekends
On‑call is required only for low census situations
Holiday work is expected for 2 out of 4 major holidays
Responsibilities include advanced neonatal care and collaboration on delivery attendance
Unit support includes a charge nurse, CNA, respiratory therapy, 24/7 neonatologists, NNP coverage, a transport team, and lactation consultants
General traveler orientation and one day/one night of unit orientation provided
Scrub color is navy
Free parking is available
Time off must be pre‑approved by management
First‑time travelers are accepted with 2+ years NICU experience
Requirements
Active SD or compact RN license required
Minimum of 1.5 years recent NICU experience required (2+ years of experience required for first‑time travelers)
Current certifications: BLS, NRP, and PALS required; STABLE preferred
Completion of an approved nursing education program
Experience with vent management, IV starts, chest tubes, and IV medication titration required
EPIC charting experience preferred, approval required if no prior EPIC experience
Must reside more than 100 miles from the facility
Previous permanent staff must wait one year before returning as a traveler
