The Accounting Manager/Assistant Controller Opportunity

large, privately (NOT PE) held company that helps move the world’s products by

operating a national footprint with complex inventory, multi-location operations, and a growth-oriented leadership team. We’re seeking a

strong Assistant Financial Controller

to take ownership of the accounting function, lead a team of 5+ professionals, and help scale the finance organization alongside continued business expansion.

What You’ll Be Responsible For as the Assistant Controller

Own the

monthly, quarterly, and annual close process

across multiple operating locations

Ensure accurate, timely financial statements (income statement, balance sheet, cash flow)

Deliver clear variance analysis and financial insights to leadership

Support budgeting and forecasting processes tied closely to operations

Operational & Inventory Accounting

Oversee accounting in an

inventory‑driven distribution environment

Partner with operations to ensure accuracy around inventory valuation, costing, and controls

Identify trends, risks, and opportunities tied to margins, working capital, and throughput

Controls, Compliance & Risk

Establish and maintain strong accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls

Ensure full GAAP compliance

Coordinate with external auditors and manage audits and reviews

Proactively identify and mitigate financial and operational risks

Build scalable processes that support growth

Foster accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement

What We’re Looking For in Our Accounting Manager

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field

7+ years of progressive accounting experience , including leadership responsibility

Experience operating in a

large‑company environment

(complex, multi‑location preferred)

Strong understanding of

inventory accounting

within a distribution or product‑driven business

Confident leader who can balance hands‑on execution with strategic oversight

Excellent communication skills — able to partner across finance, operations, and leadership

CPA is not required , but it is viewed as a plus.

Compensation & Benefits for the Accounting Manager

Bonus:

~10% target
