Position Overview The purpose of this position is to provide IT support to the faculty and staff in the College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences.
Work Hours 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, Monday – Friday; some overtime may be required.
Remote/Hybrid Work Arrangement:
On‑site (Employees are primarily in the office and/or have a critical job requirement that requires dedicated office space on-site).
Minimum Experience and Qualifications Minimum Education:
Associate’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline and one year of experience in the IT field related to the area of assignment; or Bachelor’s degree and one year of experience; or Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related discipline; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
All degrees must be received from an appropriately accredited institution.
Preferred:
Experience with the systems and software referenced in the position description; excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Support:
Manages hardware and software needs, repairs, acquisitions, software installation, and help‑desk functions; provides support to staff, faculty, administrators and students in assigned buildings; serves as backup to other campus technical support analysts; trains users on new software; creates tutorials and training documents; performs diagnostics and maintenance on Windows Server, SCCM, Windows 10/11, Print Manager, and other systems; modifies, upgrades, and patches software; resolves incident tickets; creates and transfers documents; develops small databases and performs statistical analysis; researches new technologies; supports software and programming packages; follows guidelines and consults with other locations for resolution.
Technical Solution Development:
Improves system efficiency; observes processes and initiates corrective actions; upgrades desktop computers; automates OS image installation; manages individual accounts; contacts vendors for recommendations; documents procedures and solutions; reports incidents using TeamDynamix Ticketing System.
Planning and Organizing:
Maintains a database of computer equipment; generates reports on personnel, locations, vendors, etc.; develops training; conducts research on system suitability.
Project Management:
Manages server accounts, shared network resources, and network support; maintains familiarity with Windows NT Domain; provides recommendations on expenditures.
Technical Knowledge:
Writes programs and code; understands VoIP, networking, IP addressing, internet connectivity, audio/video, Office Suites, server management, Active Directory, Ethernet cabling; manages print and wireless system access; creates cables; maps servers; applies knowledge of VPN and backup processes.
Consultancy Skills:
Consults with administrators, directors, department chairs, staff, faculty, and students on computer needs, selection, maintenance, and long‑range planning; communicates clearly in non‑technical terms.
