Staff Accountant
Manager: Maria Brown Team: Finance & Accounting Location: Kansas City (in-office)
The Staff Accountant will support the Finance & Accounting team by performing essential accounting functions, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the organization’s financial records, and helping guide the team through ongoing growth and acquisitions. This role will oversee daily bookkeeping functions—including both receivables and payables—assist with monthly and annual close processes, and contribute to budgeting and financial reporting. The Staff Accountant will play a key role in strengthening controls, keeping bookkeeping staff on track, and supporting the department’s upward expansion. Over time, this role has the potential to specialize in accounts payable or accounts receivable and build a dedicated team around that function.
KPIs
Accuracy and timeliness of reconciliations and journal entries
Timeliness of monthly and quarterly close processes
Effectiveness in overseeing daily bookkeeping operations
Compliance with GAAP and internal controls
Accuracy of reporting for audits and regulatory filings
Primary Duties
Oversee day‑to‑day bookkeeping functions (accounts payable and accounts receivable).
Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, and adjustments in accordance with GAAP.
Assist with month‑end and year‑end close processes, meeting all deadlines.
Support budgeting, forecasting, and management reporting.
Participate in audits by preparing schedules and providing documentation.
Ensure compliance with internal controls and applicable accounting standards.
Contribute to special projects related to acquisitions and departmental growth.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (required).
2–4 years of accounting experience (mid‑ to senior‑level; not entry‑level/bookkeeping).
Strong knowledge of GAAP and corporate accounting principles.
Proficiency in Oracle NetSuite accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite.
Strong attention to detail, organizational, and time management skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to support and guide staff.
Preferred Qualifications
CPA or CPA candidate (preferred).
Experience with Oracle NetSuite, Microsoft Excel, and reporting tools such as RAMP and Cube.
Background in the financial services industry.
Prior experience mentoring or managing accounting staff.
