Hawthorn Children’s Psychiatric Hospital provides specialized care for children and adolescents diagnosed with mental health disorders. The Acute Children’s Unit seeks a positive, energetic teacher who collaborates closely with community partners and adolescent community schools. You will help adolescents with mental health disorders maximize their potential through instruction guided by the Missouri DESE course of study while adapting coursework to meet individual student needs.
As an educator, you will receive ongoing guidance and training, collaborate with peers and other disciplines, and gain stimulating professional fulfillment while supporting the children in our care.
Responsibilities
Individualize instruction for a mixed-ability classroom of 4–8 students.
Revise, develop, and implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and Section 504 Plans.
Attend and contribute to multidisciplinary meetings regarding students in your classroom.
Develop treatment goals for classroom use and report on those goals weekly.
Model and teach social skills to students.
Maintain attendance and academic records and report on them at specified times.
Qualifications Qualified candidates will possess:
At least a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from an accredited university.
Four years of post‑baccalaureate teaching experience in a state‑approved school.
MO Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Lifetime or Career Continuous Professional Certification (CCPC) in a special‑education area.
Desired Skills
Ability to write effective IEPs with limited assistance.
Basic proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
