Safety and Operations Technician
JDC Power Systems, LLC is seeking a dedicated Safety and Operations Technician to support our safety and operational excellence initiatives. The role involves onsite electrical and mechanical assessments, safety and operational procedure development, and technical training delivery. Extensive national travel is required.
Responsibilities And Duties
Conduct onsite electrical and mechanical equipment assessments across commercial, industrial, and mission‑critical environments, including data centers, manufacturing facilities, hospitals, and mixed‑use buildings.
Identify electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and stored energy sources to support safe work execution, lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures, and job hazard analysis.
Support field service activities including commissioning, troubleshooting, testing, startup, and operational readiness of power systems equipment.
Interpret and apply technical documentation such as one‑line diagrams, schematics, control drawings, and manufacturer documentation.
Offer technical guidance and best practices to regional and national field service teams.
Training and Knowledge Transfer
Deliver in‑person and virtual training on electrical safety, arc flash and shock protection, lockout/tagout, PPE usage, and equipment operation.
Assist in developing and continuously improving standardized training materials, including presentations, job aids, manuals, worksheets, and hands‑on practical exercises.
Support onboarding and development of new field service technicians and skill advancement of veteran technicians.
Serve as a technical and safety subject‑matter resource for the Field Service organization.
Safety and Compliance
Support and reinforce JDC’s safety culture by ensuring compliance with OSHA, NFPA 70E, and company safety standards.
Conduct safety walkthroughs, audits, and assessments at project and customer sites.
Identify hazards, recommend corrective actions, and report safety concerns to leadership.
Participate in incident investigations, documentation, root cause analysis, and corrective action tracking.
Documentation and Reporting
Develop, review, and update technical documentation including Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Emergency Operating Procedures (EOPs), and safety procedures.
Complete detailed field reports, training records, assessments, and audit documentation.
Support standardized reporting and data capture within JDC field service systems and tools.
Collaboration and Customer Engagement
Work closely with National and Regional Field Service leadership to ensure consistent execution of standards and expectations.
Interface directly with customers, vendors, and partners in a professional, solutions‑oriented manner.
Support customer satisfaction by addressing field issues promptly, communicating clearly, and escalating concerns appropriately.
Health And Safety Compliance
Ensure all field technicians follow company safety protocols and comply with industry regulations.
Conduct regular safety training, audits, and incident investigations to foster a culture of safety.
Stay up to date with federal, state, and local regulations related to field operations and ensure practices meet these requirements.
Strategic Planning And Continuous Improvement
Collaborate with senior leadership to shape and execute strategies that drive growth and improve field service operations nationwide.
Identify areas for improvement and lead initiatives that increase operational efficiency and enhance service quality.
Stay informed on the latest trends, technologies, and best practices in field service management to keep the team competitive.
Required Skills
Minimum of 5 years of experience in field service, operations, maintenance, safety, or technical consulting involving electrical and/or mechanical systems.
Experience with power systems equipment including switchgear, circuit breakers, generators, batteries, pumps, transformers, and associated control systems.
Strong understanding of electrical distribution systems (120VAC and above) and mechanical systems.
Ability to identify energy magnitudes and evaluate energized and de‑energized conditions.
Proficient in electrical and mechanical troubleshooting.
Ability to read and interpret schematics, diagrams, and one‑line drawings.
Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to deliver technical training.
Proficient with Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Additional Requirements
Experience developing or implementing safety, operational, or technical procedures preferred.
Prior training, mentoring, or supervisory experience is a plus.
Strong verbal and written communication skills, with ability to communicate clearly with technical and non‑technical audiences.
Effective facilitator capable of delivering training and presentations to groups of technical and trades personnel; public speaking experience is preferred and expected to comprise approximately 15% of the role.
Certifications
OSHA safety training (OSHA 30 preferred or ability to obtain).
NFPA 70E training (required or ability to obtain).
Additional electrical, mechanical, or safety‑related certifications are a plus.
Location This position is primarily remote, with the employee working from home during non‑travel weeks. Periodic work at company offices in Chicago, IL and Barrington, IL may be required approximately once every two months.
Travel Requirements National overnight travel within the continental United States is required approximately 60–70% of the time. Typical travel includes travel on Monday, on‑site work Tuesday through Thursday, and remote work on Friday, occurring approximately three out of four weeks per month. Occasional weekend travel or work may also be required. The company will make reasonable efforts to manage travel schedules to support work‑life balance and accommodate personal or family needs when possible.
