Work Schedule Wytheville Community College is open from 8 am-5 pm. This position will be expected to work these hours and could work some weekends and evenings occasionally.

Responsibilities

Responsible for providing accounting of local funds and grants.

Ensure that grant accounts are maintained in accordance to grant proposals and awards.

Responsible for accounts payable of all local funds administered by the College.

Works with college end users, the VCCS Shared Service Center (SSC), and vendors to resolve state payable issues.

Responsible for maintenance of records for audit.

Assists Business Manager in the preparation of 1099 tax forms and reporting.

Performs timely reconciliations of local funds to the college’s accounting system.

Implement and uphold internal control procedures to prevent errors, fraud, and non-compliance.

Identify opportunities for process enhancements to streamline accounting procedures, reduce manual interventions, and improve efficiency.

Provides excellent customer service to both internal and external customers.

Responsible for updating Asset Management System and Inventory spreadsheets for equipment purchases and surplus;

Will be required to process a full physical inventory bi-annually.

Special Assignments May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

Required Qualifications (KSA's)

Previous accounting/bookkeeping experience with a strong attention to detail and accuracy in processing financial transactions;

Experience in providing customer service;

Experience in a fast-paced environment; and

Skilled in the use of Microsoft Office (or equivalent) software-specifically spreadsheets.

Additional Considerations

Working knowledge of the Commonwealth Accounting Policies and Procedures (CAPP) manual;

Experience with Peoplesoft (or equivalent) student and accounting information systems; and

Work experience in a Higher Education setting.
