Job Summary Responsible for accomplishing corrective maintenance and preventative maintenance on various equipment and systems. Create a successful customer service relationship. Performs a variety of duties, related to all maintenance disciplines including: electrical, plumbing, HVAC, fire alarm, pneumatic tube, all central energy plant equipment, carpentry, and other responsibilities as assigned. Provides in-depth knowledge and trouble shooting skills on the above maintenance disciplines. Assists and trains other staff members with maintenance repairs and preventive maintenance procedures. Responsible for the progress of assigned job(s) under minimal supervision. Assists in the development, scheduling and assignment of the PM program.
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Obtain GED within 6 months of hire; High School Graduate or equivalent preferred.
Experience: Minimum of three years of experience in the maintenance field, preferred experience in a Health Care Environment.
Licensure/Certification: Must have a current valid SC Driver's License.
Knowledge and Skills
Must be able to work with all types of hand tools and power tools and has in-depth knowledge of maintenance disciplines.
Prefer healthcare DHEC, NFPA and TJC specific code knowledge.
Must have a working knowledge in computers to complete assigned work orders and preventative maintenance using the maintenance software program.
Prefer experience with healthcare HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and physical plant equipment.
Other Requirements This position requires operation of a vehicle for Roper St. Francis Healthcare business. Must possess a valid, current South Carolina driver's license and be insurable under the Roper St. Francis Healthcare vehicle insurance plan.
Work Demands / Environment Constant standing and walking. Heavy physical effort including lifting, moving or carrying, pushing or pulling up to 60 lbs. Requires fingertip dexterity, reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, climbing, balancing. Exposure to infectious materials, communicable diseases, wet or humid conditions, dust, fumes, gases, chemicals. Exposure to vibration, electrical shock risk, moderate to loud noise. Must report to work and stay through emergencies (hurricanes, earthquakes). May need to work weekends/holidays. Should be available for on‑call duties.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Corrective Maintenance & Repairs (40%)
— Ensures equipment and systems operate properly. Performs a variety of repairs such as replacing light bulbs, fixing toilets, installing dispensers, repairing HVAC, fire alarm panels, dietary equipment, pneumatic tube systems, patient beds, medical air, etc. Provides training and proper documentation.
Preventive Maintenance (40%)
— Performs preventive maintenance on air conditioning systems, stretchers, wheelchairs, fans, elevators, emergency eyewash stations, smoke detectors, air‑curtain door fans, nurse call systems, emergency lighting, motors, pneumatic tubes, refrigerators, boilers, fire suppression sprinkler systems, fuel pumps, steam water heaters, backflow preventers, etc. Assists in scheduling and program development.
Maintenance Projects (20%)
— Installs power/electrical for new offices, installs outlets, panels, cabling, light fixtures, rewires equipment, assembles new equipment, coordinates with vendors. Documents all work.
