A Water Systems Technician I position is available with the City of Fort Worth Water Department Plant Operations Division. Plant Operations is responsible for 5 Water treatment plants, one wastewater treatment plant, and multiple lift stations, tanks, pump stations, and large meters for the City of Fort Worth as well as customer cities. The successful applicant will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of the city's water and wastewater treatment plants and facilities, and perform a variety of technical and manual labor tasks as assigned. Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED certification

Valid Driver’s license

Possession of or ability to obtain either a Water or Wastewater Class D license

Must pass Drug Screen, Physical

Preferred Qualifications

Possession of or ability to obtain a Water or Wastewater Class C license within 3 years of hire

Previous experience working in a water utility

Responsibilities

Operates and adjusts treatment plant pumps, motors, feeders and other equipment

Participates in routine laboratory analysis at various stages of the treatment process to determine plant efficiency

ists mechanical staff with maintenance of facilities and equipment, such as adding oil or grease to components

Records information obtained from charts, gauges, meters and scales

Participates in monitoring the work area to ensure a safe working environment

Working Conditions & Physical Demand Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically require touching, talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, repetitive motions, climbing, balancing, pushing, pulling and lifting; exposure to moving mechanical parts, odors, dust, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, intense noises, gases, vibrations. Heavy work may require exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds constantly.
