Overview The Clarkson EMS Education Program requires a lead instructor who, by training and experience, is qualified to provide medical and administrative instruction to each paramedic cohort participating in the curriculum.

General Purpose Within the Clarkson EMS Education program, provide instruction and support to faculty, staff, and students for the purposes of training and educating basic, intermediate, and advanced-level emergency medicine courses (i.e., BLS, ACLS, AMLS, PALS, PEPP, PHTLS). Instruction and support includes but is not limited to: the design, development, selection, adaptation, maintenance, and knowledge of current classroom/online assessment, curriculum and presentation for all programmatically related elements.

Position Responsibilities

Consult and collaborate with faculty, staff and external agencies regarding instructional needs and the application of instructional design and tools in the delivery of instruction. Evaluate/assess student skills.

Provide consulting and instructional services for lab, program, center, and/or classroom.

Provide the New York State Department of Health, Bureau of EMS with the necessary materials for students successfully completing courses required for state examinations.

Respond to all questions/inquiries in a timely and effective manner. Includes but not limited to applicants, course participants, faculty, and external customers/sources/agencies.

Assist the Clarkson EMS program Director, Medical Director and Clinical Coordinator in coordinating the efforts of hospitals and EMS agencies serving as affiliates to Clarkson in the Paramedic and EMT Programs.

Design, develop and evaluate instructional materials. Evaluate the instructional effectiveness of the strategies and educational approaches used.

Develop, prepare, assemble, and distribute handouts/materials for course participants. Update/edit as necessary.

Ensure current emergency medicine standards of care, literature, and current practices are maintained/utilized.

Manage instructional support facility (i.e., lab, center, and classroom).

Administer, operate, and manage courseware management system.

Support the application of technology within the teaching facility.

Operate and maintain complex equipment, requiring specialized knowledge or skills.

Assure facilities are following federal and state regulations.

Oversee and administer course fees and student payments. Monitor course enrollments and budget adjustments based on enrollments. Analyze, monitor, and report financial data, information, and reports. May provide guidance regarding teaching materials and presentations.

Oversee, manage, and maintain approval and data for EMS Continuing Education Programs, student applications/participation and general course information.

Develop, prepare, and monitor course budgets, expenditures, and processes; generate financial reports for administrative review.

Evaluate and implement changes to Clarkson EMS educational programs to support the mission, strategic plan and financial integrity in accordance with overall departmental objectives.

Perform all other duties as assigned.

Education Baccalaureate Degree in a related discipline required (e.g., Nursing, Education, Criminal Justice, Fire Science) or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience Requirement

Minimum one (1) year experience performing direct patient care as a Certified Paramedic or Registered Nurse (critical care nursing experience preferred).

Previous experience providing student instruction, adult medical teaching/training, or serving as a preceptor within a clinical position.

Current knowledge of emergency medicine standards of care, literature, and current practices.

Proven ability to meet deadlines, conduct follow-up and multi-task within a changing environment, under minimal supervision.

Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills with patients/families, professional health care staff, and interdisciplinary team members as demonstrated through written and verbal communications/interactions.

Working knowledge of computer software applications such as Microsoft Office.

Certifications/Licensure Requirements

Instructor level required within nine (9) months of hire for the following: • New York State's Bureau of EMS Certified Instructor Coordinator (CIC) certification. • New York Paramedic; • Basic Life Support; • Advanced Cardiac Life Support; • Advanced Medical Life Support; • Pediatric Advanced Life Support; • Pediatric Education for Prehospital Professionals; • PHTLS Prehospital Trauma Life Support.

Desired Qualifications

Three (3) years' experience performing direct patient care as a Certified Paramedic or Registered Nurse (critical care nursing experience preferred).

EMS Instructor/Evaluator Certification

Intermediate experience with Microsoft Office Suite to include Word, Excel, PowerPoint.

Proven track record of ability to handle difficult conversations/situations.

Experience using PeopleSoft.

Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Resourceful with ability to problem solve and work independently.

Ability to interact effectively with a wide variety of individuals including students, parents, faculty, and staff of the University.

Ability to execute tasks in a busy academic environment.

Demonstrated flexibility with evidence of successfully working in a team environment.

Manage confidential information.

Positive attitude.

Planning and time management skills and be able to prioritize tasks in a busy academic environment.
