Job Purpose and Summary The Pharmacy Technician supports the pharmacy team in delivering operational and service excellence within the store. Technicians are often the first point of contact, ensuring prescriptions are filled promptly, safely, and accurately while providing caring service that exceeds patient expectations. They apply Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), best practices, and effective communication throughout their shifts.
Responsibilities
Live our purpose by following all company SOPs at each workstation to help pharmacists manage and improve patient health.
Follow pharmacy workflow procedures at each pharmacy workstation (production, pick‑up, drive‑thru, drop‑off) for safe and accurate prescription fulfillment.
Contribute to positive patient experiences by showing empathy and genuine care, offering immunizations and other services, and solving or escalating patient problems.
Complete basic inventory activities (putting away medication deliveries, cycle counts, returns‑to‑stocks, waiting‑bin inventories) as directed.
Assist in building a high‑performing team, embracing a growth mindset, and actively seeking opportunities to expand clinical and technical knowledge.
Remain flexible for scheduling and business needs, traveling to stores in the market as required.
Understand and comply with all relevant federal, state, and local laws, regulations, professional standards, and ethical principles, ensuring patient safety and privacy.
Deliver additional patient health care services (immunizations, point‑of‑care testing, and off‑site clinics) where allowable by law and supported by training and certification.
Immunizations (Optional)
Complete additional licensure and training to obtain Technician Immunizer status for vaccine preparation and administration.
Educate patients about vaccine importance and refer vaccine questions to the Pharmacist‑on‑duty.
Monitor and respond to adverse reactions; report events per public health requirements.
Review, collect, and document patient information for each applicable patient.
Monitor and manage vaccine supplies.
Required Qualifications
Comply with state board of pharmacy requirements, including age, education, and licensure/certification.
Minimum age 16 if not specified by board; high school diploma or equivalent, or active enrollment in high school or equivalency program.
State‑level licensure and national certification vary by state.
Essential Functions
Attendance: Regular and predictable, including nights and weekends.
Training: Complete required training within the designated timeframe.
Attention and focus: Concentrate on tasks, pivot quickly, confirm prescription accuracy.
Customer service and team orientation: Help people friendly, notice patient reactions, respond appropriately.
Communication skills: Use verbal and written communication, active listening, ask questions.
Mathematical reasoning: Apply math to dispense prescriptions and calculate supplies.
Problem resolution: Identify challenging interactions and choose best course of action.
Physical demands: Mobile, lift, scan, bag items, reach overhead, repeat finger motions, lift up to 20 lbs, clear visual acuity, exchange spoken ideas, receive oral information.
Any additional tasks as directed by Supervisor or Manager.
Preferred Qualifications
1–3 years of experience as a Pharmacy Technician.
Experience in a pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service setting.
Ability to work in the home store and across the market to meet business needs.
