SUMMARY OF FUNCTIONS The Nurse Aide (Direct Care Staff) provides hands‑on assistance to medically fragile children in a structured pediatric day center. The role includes supporting activities of daily living, monitoring health status, assisting with safety and care routines, and maintaining a therapeutic, safe, and developmentally appropriate environment.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist with hygiene, dressing, toileting, and other daily care needs
Support feeding routines, including oral and tube feeding as trained
Record and report vital signs and changes in condition to nursing staff
Provide mobility and transfer assistance (e.g., wheelchair, lifts)
Maintain a clean and safe care environment
Document care activities per center protocols
Support developmental activities and therapeutic play
Participate in training and demonstrate competency before delivering care
Follow center policies for infection control, safety, and emergency procedures
Communicate respectfully with families and staff
May assist with transportation or van support as needed
Assist with weekend marketing events as requested and approved
Perform other duties as required
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS
Reports to: Director of Nursing or Center Administrator
Works under the supervision of an RN or LVN
Collaborates with IDT therapy, nursing, and administrative staff
Interacts professionally with children, families, and transportation personnel
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES This position does not supervise other employees.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Pediatric day healthcare center with medically fragile children
Frequent standing, walking, lifting, bending, and physical care tasks
Exposure to infection risks, bodily fluids, and medical equipment
Indoor facility with structured activity areas and clinical care space
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and transfer pediatric patients safely
Frequent bending, reaching, and movement throughout shift
Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods
May require pushing wheelchairs, operating lifts, or helping on/off transport vans
POSITION TYPE / EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
Full‑time
Monday–Friday, with shifts falling between 7:00 AM and 6:00 PM
Occasional extended hours based on patient needs or center operations
TRAVEL Minimal; may assist with transport on van routes as needed.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or GED required
One of the following:
One year of experience employed in a health care setting providing direct care to minors who are medically or technologically dependent;
Two years of experience employed in a health care, childcare, or school setting providing direct care to minors who are medically or technologically dependent;
Two years of experience employed in a health care setting providing direct care to adults; or
Sufficient skills to meet the competency and training requirements described in subsection (b) of this section;
Certification as a Nurse Aide (CNA) preferred
Pediatric experience or working with special needs children highly preferred
CPR certification required
ADDITIONAL ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
Must be at least 18 years old
Must pass a background check and misconduct registry screening
Must meet immunization and TB screening requirements
Must complete and demonstrate competency in hands‑on care if qualifying under internal training pathway per 550.409(b)
Must comply with staff orientation and ongoing development standards in 550.415 and 550.416
