Transportation Engineer Associate III/Assistant Resident Maintenance Engineer(61

Serves as the Assistant Resident Maintenance Engineer in Edgefield Maintenance. Assists the Resident Maintenance Engineer (RME) in planning, scheduling, and supervising daily maintenance activities, including coordination of equipment and personnel during inclement weather. Assumes the responsibility of the RME in their absence. Assists the Resident Maintenance Engineer with handling personnel matters, including Employee Performance Management System (EPMS) reviews, position descriptions, and disciplinary actions. Responsible for enforcing departmental policy and ensuring compliance with safety regulations. Manages various inspection activities (guardrail, catch basin, and culverts) per engineering directives for all state‑maintained roads in Edgefield County. Investigates requests for service and complaints from the general public, public officials, or contractors and makes recommendations for corrective action. Assists in the processing of claims, including both damage claims submitted by the public and claims to be submitted by the SCDOT for property damage. Updates and maintains the Edgefield Roadway Asset Database. Performs monthly quality control through the use of Discoverer reports and performs other related duties as assigned.
Education and Experience: A bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Construction Science and Management and three (3) years of engineering or construction management work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence.
Physical Demands: The essential functions involve sitting or standing at a desk for extended periods of time. This position may require occasional travel. May require bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, and kneeling. Walking for extended periods, treading rough terrain, working in close proximity to motoring traffic, and in natural environmental hazards. May be required to work outside normal business hours or respond to emergency situations.
