Job Purpose and Summary As a Pharmacy Technician, you will support the pharmacy team in delivering operational and service excellence within your store. Technicians are often the first point of contact to assist our patients and customers to deliver an exceptional experience. You will ensure that pharmacy operations run smoothly, prescriptions are filled promptly, safely and accurately, and that we are providing caring service that exceeds patient expectations. You will operate as part (but not limited to) following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), best practices and effective communication while demonstrating genuine care and contributing to a safe and inclusive culture.
Responsibilities
Follow company SOPs at each workstation to help our Pharmacists manage and improve patient health.
Follow pharmacy workflow procedures at each pharmacy workstation (production, pick‑up, drive‑thru, drop‑off) for safe and accurate prescription fulfillment.
Contribute to positive patient experiences by showing empathy and genuine care: creating heartfelt and personalized moments while serving patients at pick‑up, drive‑thru and over the phone; offering immunizations and other services at the register and over the phone; solving or escalating patient problems.
Complete basic inventory activities, such as accurately putting away medication deliveries and completing cycle counts, returns‑to‑stocks and waiting bin inventories as directed by pharmacy leadership.
Embrace a growth mindset and be receptive to feedback; actively seek opportunities to expand clinical and technical knowledge needed to better assist patients.
Remain flexible for scheduling and business needs, traveling to stores in the market as required.
Understand and comply with all relevant federal, state, and local laws, regulations, professional standards, and ethical principles; comply with CVS policies and procedures to ensure patient safety, controlled substance dispensing and record‑keeping, and protection of patient privacy and security.
Deliver additional patient health care services (e.g., immunizations, point‑of‑care testing, and voluntarily staffing off‑site clinics) where allowable by law and supported by required training and certification.
Optional Immunization Responsibilities
Complete additional licensure and training requirements to obtain Technician Immunizer status.
Educate patients about the importance of vaccines and refer vaccination questions to the Pharmacist‑on‑duty.
Monitor and respond to adverse reactions; report such events per public health requirements.
Review, collect and document patient information for each applicable vaccine.
Monitor and manage vaccine supplies.
Required Qualifications
Comply with state board of pharmacy requirements or laws governing practice of pharmacy, including age, education, and licensure/certification; if no minimum age is mandated, must be at least 16 years old; if no minimum education is mandated, must have a high school diploma or equivalent or be actively enrolled in high school or an equivalency program.
State‑level licensure and national certification requirements vary by state.
Complete all required training within designated timeframe.
Demonstrate regular and predictable attendance, including nights and weekends.
Maintain attention, focus, and mathematical reasoning skills to ensure patient safety and prescription accuracy.
Exhibit customer‑service orientation, team collaboration, active listening, and effective communication skills.
Show problem‑resolution ability and adaptability to business needs.
Meet physical demands such as standing for extended periods, lifting up to 20 lbs, and performing repetitive tasks with precision.
Perform any additional tasks as directed by a Supervisor or Manager.
Preferred Qualifications
1‑3 years previous experience as a Pharmacy Technician.
Previous experience in a pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer‑service setting.
Ability to work in the home store and across the market to meet business needs.
