Project Assistant – NYS Office of Information Technology Services
Base Pay Range: $106,898/year – $131,665/year.
Role Overview Under the direction of the Manager Information Technology Services 2, SG-29, the Project Assistant, SG-NS, within the Dedicated Support Division, Department of Health Bureau, will act as a lead workplace architect responsible for the vision, strategy, and execution of high‑performance work environments. The project assistant will provide solution proposals and input into the workplace architecture solutions associated with facility modernization projects.
Duties & Responsibilities
Develop and maintain strategic digital workplace solutions.
Design and implement collaboration, communication, and knowledge management tools.
Assess and recommend new technologies to enhance the digital work experience.
Ensure security and compliance within digital workplace environments.
Collaborate with IT teams, business stakeholders, and vendors for effective implementation.
Triage workplace architecture related requests to identify best‑fit solutions.
Collaborate with stakeholders to understand and document business needs.
Collaborate with enterprise service owners to ensure solutions align with enterprise and security policies and standards.
Work in conjunction with enterprise services to maintain the platforms used to deliver standard software packages, patches and upgrades for assigned projects.
Interact with vendors for technical support as needed to solve hardware/software problems or gain product insights.
Document and oversee the creation of workplace architecture standards, procedures and guidelines necessary to meet the complex computing requirements of DOH.
Collaborate closely with ITS cross‑functional teams (Shared services, Network, BAS, Procurement, Finance, CTO, CISO, Legal, etc.) in managing initiatives.
Executive reporting, management, workstream and backlog ticket tracking; KPI usage for daily, weekly, monthly workloads.
Communicate effectively with executive management as required.
Manage time effectively to address priorities, deadlines and additional assignments.
Work with technical and functional area experts and others as needed to develop a comprehensive knowledge of products and solutions available.
Evaluate complicated procurement documents and proposals for all types of requests (e.g., SOWs, RFPs, RFQs).
Provide courteous, professional and timely resolution of issues.
Maintain a positive and productive work environment internally within ITS and externally with agency partners.
Coordinate and communicate effectively with ITS and DOH commissioners and leadership.
Perform all supervisory responsibilities as applicable.
Minimum Qualifications Five years of experience in related work. The following degrees may substitute for the general experience as indicated:
Associate’s degree and four years of experience.
Associate’s degree including 15 semester credit hours in computer science and three years of experience.
Bachelor’s degree and three years of experience.
Bachelor’s degree including 15 semester credit hours in computer science and two years of experience.
Master’s degree in computer science or related field substitutes for an additional year of experience.
Doctorate in computer science or related field substitutes for an additional year of experience.
Additional Comments ITS will not offer permanent employment to any candidate unless the candidate provides documentation that they are authorized to accept work in the United States on a permanent basis. It is the policy of ITS not to hire F1 or H1 visa holders for permanent employment or to sponsor non‑immigrant aliens for temporary work authorization visas or for permanent residence.
Some positions may require fingerprinting.
Some positions may require up to 25% travel and/or lifting up to 50 lbs. Some positions are pending Civil Service approval. Details of position(s) will be described further if you are selected for an interview.
If eligible, positions located in New York City will receive an additional $3,400 downstate adjustment location pay with regular annual salary. Positions located in the Mid‑Hudson will receive an additional $1,650 adjustment location pay.
